The phrase "devil does your dog bite, no child no" appears in devil went down to Georgia, and in a pop song by the tom-tom club (from some movie). I've been wondering if it is a song in its own right -- anyone know? thanks.

Try Marion Thedee's Book Old Time American Fiddle I think it's in there :)

I first heard it in Square Dancing. In the days of the four handed do si do, callers used up just about everything that would rhyme with do si do.

Chicken in the breadpan scratching out dough...
One more turn and on you go...
Hurry up Cowboy, don't be slow...
Granny does you're dog bite, no child no...
and so on

Bert.

We have it as:

Cornstalk fiddle and a pea-vine bow,
Best ol' fiddle in the county, O.
Cornstalk fiddle and a pea-vine bow,
Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no.

Zipper verse, I assume.

Filler, the four handed do-si-do takes a while and the caller needs to keep time.

Chicken in a bread pan scratching at dough
Granny does your dog bite, no child no
Daddy cut his pecker off a long time ago
All for the soldier's joy

Among many others, yes & thanks. Probably, at least 3000 miles worth of your songs.
Also, off the top of my head

Here Stands The Glass
The Idle Welder (Alan MacLeod heard me do this & asked where in hell did you get that, shocked when I told him & that he hadn't heard it from you)
The Highlander's Lament (remember the broccoli moor)
The Last of the Emigrants(Bound for Aussie)

& God knows how many other gems.

Some confusion here, I think.

What I recall hearing sung in the States in the 60s was the following.

Mister, does your dog bite? No sir no Daddy cut his biter off a long time ago.

Mister, does your hen peck? No sir no Daddy cut his pecker off a long time ago
