04 Aug 99 - 01:23 PM (#102300) Subject: I think my cookies are stale From: Dave Swan I've set PJ up as a member(called p.j.)and kept my name for my page, but cannot re-set cookies between users. When I hit re-set cookie and enter the different e-mail address I get a message which says I'm not recognized. O.K. I've got a little hangover, but I don't look that bad. The most recent user renders the next user unrecognizable. Do any of the wizards out there have advice? Thanks, Dave |

I think I've figured out how to deal with most of the cookie problems. If a simple "reset" won't work, click on my name below and send me an e-mail, and I'll see if I can help. There may be a problem where there are two people using the same computer with different cookies, but I think I may have a solution for that, too. Joe Offer |

05 Aug 99 - 03:20 AM (#102466) Subject: RE: I think my cookies are stale From: Joe Offer The Reset Cookie (click) link may not be as obvious as it used to be, but it's up in the Quick Links box at the top of almost every page. I'm guessing that for two people using a computer, the first one to connect to Mudcat will be greeted with that new page, which asks you to select a password - trouble is, that page will be for the person who last had his or her cookie on the computer. It could get messy if the wrong person tries to fix things by changing the other person's registration. I suspect Dave Swan made himself disappear that way. Poor Dave. Once the first person clears the submit password/correct registration page and gets back to normal, I'm guessing that the second person will be able to reset the cookie (with their e-mail address the first time, I hope), and then get to the password page and fix things up. I'm hoping that people will resist the temptation to register with a new name, because that means we have more unused accounts to wade through. Registration can be changed almost any way you want it, but it's better to change than it is for you to log in as an entirely new person. You know, if there are two of you using the computer, you can avoid the "Reset cookie" hassle if one of you uses Netscape, and the other MSIE. the separate browsers each have their own collection of cookies. -Joe Offer- -Joe Offer- |

I tried the reset cookies last night AND this morning, and didn't notice that instead of the e-mail like it used to want, it wants the ID that I use here! Sheesh! Gotta get new eyeballs, I guess. |
