12 Mar 10 - 09:06 AM (#2862575) Subject: Montreal returns to 1961? The What Four From: john f weldon For those who haven't already noticed, a bunch of legendary Montreal folkies have hauled out their axes, polished off the rust... ...oh God, I'm sounding like a copywriter... ...still, a lot of you Mudcatters know these guys, just look at all the Montreal 60s nostalgia that got collected here last year! The What Four are: Peter Weldon, Jack Nissenson, Marvin Segal, John Knowles, Jane McGarrigle, Andrew Cowan & Steve Barry. You'll recognize some names from the Mountain City Four, not to mention the Steve Barry Blues Band which never went out of style. Their first gig is at the Centre St Ambroise (5080-A) March 20 8PM. |

We even drove along St. Ambroise looking for a possible venue yesterday afternoon -- and somehow I missed this thread completely. DARN! |
21 Mar 10 - 02:53 PM (#2868730) Subject: RE: Montreal returns to 1961? The What Four From: john f weldon Dorothy, they will return, possibly at the outdoor venue during the summer, right on the canal, behind the same building. Very pleasant place to listen to live music. |

21 Mar 10 - 04:31 PM (#2868791) Subject: RE: Montreal returns to 1961? The What Four From: john f weldon When I say the place was packed, I mean bodies jammed against the walls, and dozens more out in the hall where they couldn't even see the stage. Next time, they'll get a bigger venue (I'm hoping outdoors). With an average age close to 70 (!) (not counting Kathleen Weldon and Lily Lanken who joined in a few songs at the end), they're not a computer-y bunch. |

23 Mar 10 - 03:13 PM (#2870208) Subject: RE: Montreal returns to 1961? The What Four From: john f weldon BTW, the band did discover this thread, and noticed my phrase "not a computer-y bunch". Just goes to show you, one snark & it comes back. However, yes, if they didn't know about Mudcat before, they do now. |

21 Jun 10 - 04:36 PM (#2932195) Subject: RE: Montreal returns to 1961? The What Four From: GUEST Saw them at the Folk Festival On The Canal yesterday. They had Jane McGarrigle (sister of Kate and Anna) playing dobro and piano with them. It was a treat to hear some old fashioned hootenanny music. |
