They were a development of a previous one-off called Get Lost! which had Alun Armstrong and Bridget Turner as the teacher leads. Good fun as well. I was lucky enough to receive that boxed set that Micca mentions (though not from him) and keep re-viewing all four. Nice to see so many places I know but no linger visit, and still new things to discover in the performances. Plater had a son in the Scout group I helped run in younger days, though I only met him a few times. He seemed a reserved sort of guy but a good chap with whom to share a pint. Hammered me at darts the only time I played him. |

However, for some reason I just can't get into the Beiderbecke Connection. I've watched a couple of episodes and they don't seem to work for me. I'm also not a jazz fan but for some reason find the music very easy listening. Big Al with his wheeler-dealing and office in the garden shed is just such a character! |

Apparently Alan Plater had wanted Tom Courtenay (it's a Hull thing)for the leading TV role. Much of Mr. Plater's work is well worth a look/listen/read. Good Lord, he used to write Z cars. Why has an unwanted dialogue box just covered up my words ?? Oh, it's gone. |
