It's good to know that even after a week coal 115 miners can be rescued.

That's part of my point. The Chinese deserve credit for the success of their rescue effort. At the same time their coal industry most likely operates under less scrutiny than ours does.

It is indeed good news. Poor buggers... a week!

As far as their safety rules, seems to me that Shanghaiceltic commented in the past on this and said it was very poor.

Although, I must also add that (and I don't have any data or examples), I have oftened wondered if the huge hydroelectric dams have played any part in the frequency of mine disaters in China.
