I only have the bare bones of this old British Music Hall song composed by Will Fieldmouse, 1899, and sung by Gus Elen. The chorus runs:

Chorus:

If yer wants to see me dining-room or step into my parlor;
Or me orfice where I contacts all me biz;
If yer wants to see me bedroom; or the place we calls the larder;
Why; you've only got to stop just where you is.

I'd like to have the verses as well.

Here's a link to the cover of the sheet music: click here for cover graphic

I would appreciate any help you might provide.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Yeah, I figured this request was too much of a challenge for the Mudcat stewarts.

All I find when I do Google searches is this thread and the original sheet music cover page.

Information from WorldCat.org:

THE COSTER'S MANSION, OR, YOU'VE ONLY GOT TO STOP JUST WHERE YOU IS!
Words, Will Fieldhouse; music, George Le Brunn; sung by Gus Elen.
London: Francis, Day and Hunter, ©1899.

First line: I've oft 'eard abaht the lovely mansions.

The British Library and Oxford and Cambridge Universities each have a copy of the sheet music.

I don't think this is the complete song, but I've been able to piece this much together from various "snippets":

If yer wants to see the dining room or step into the parlour
Or my orfice where I contracts all my biz;
If you wants to see the bedroom or the place we call the larder
Why! You've only got to stop just where you is!
* * *
I ain't at all the coster wot yer 'ears about in songs,
As allus talks about 'is girl, 'er beauty and 'is wrongs,
And then a-serenading when the night is freezing 'ard
Is a kind of sport the costers you will find 'ave always barred.
When the elements is wicious on the landlord we will sub,
And drink and smoke (and sometimes fight) inside the nearest pub.
But it sounds so wery pretty in a sweetly warbled ditty
With footlights, limelights, pearlies to the ground:
Now I gives yer all my word, it's a fable wot yer've 'eard,
For there ain't a coster like it to be found.

Jim-

I bet you sifted through several hundred hits to come up with this.

Thanks!

I wonder where the rest of the verses are buried.

I've just purcased a copy of the sheet music a different song that Gus used to sing from the Bodleian Library (Oxford) and it was a simple process indeed costing ten quid for the copy.

It doesn't look like they have this song, which is surprising.
However the British Library does:

The Coster's Mansion reference at the British Library

There's a link in their menu to a "Blank order form"...

This could be a race 'cos I've been after this song (I think) for a while now but didn't know the title just the concept of a single room.

aaaand that was simple. Bit too simple - it could become rather addictive!

Bodleian tall you the cost up front - £10
BL are a bit coy and start off by taking £1 and leaving the rest as a surprise... a bit of digging around suggests a similar cost tho'.

And if that seems steep, the price on the cover image of 4/- (4 shillings) looks to work out at £18.90p in modern, toyshop money so it's a bit of a bargain :)

I found this at the "message board" (forum) of Make 'Em Laugh! (monologues.co.uk). Apparently the distinction between a song and a monologue is kinda fluid.

THE COSTER'S MANSION
Sung by Gus Elen

1. I've oft 'eard abaht the lovely mansions
Wot yer sees when up the West End way.
I've 'eard, wot wiv improvements and expansions,
They've a fresh and brand-new room for ev'ry day.
Well, I've a pretty mansion in the New Cut.
It's a place built in the werry latest line.
We've a room for ev'ry feed,
And a score we doesn't need.
It's a knock-aht, is this domicile o' mine.

CHORUS: If yer wants ter see me dining-room,
Or step into me parlour,
Or me orfice where I contracts all my biz,
If yer wants ter see me bedroom,
Or the place we calls the larder,
Why, you've only got to stay just where you is.

2. The missis 'as a bood-war for retiring,
And of evenings, when my daily graft is done,
I've a study, so what more are we requiring?
And yut our private rooms are boaf as one.
The moke 'e gets 'is grub up in a corner.
I shoves the barrer underneaf the bed.
At the mansion, plain to you,
We've a stable, coach-'ouse too,
And the size of it's enough to turn your 'ead.

CHORUS: If yer wants to view the kitchen
Where we cooks the eels and kippers,
Or where I counts the proceeds o' my biz,
Or peep into the barf-room
While the missis baves the nippers,
Why, you've only got to stop just where you is.

3. Like the nobs, I've got an 'eap of pictures,
Well, any kind o' subject as you'd choose.
They ain't exactly class; their sorts o' mixtures,
As I've taken from the "Lustrated News"—
And I've a lovely place for ducks and chickens
In one corner, such a lovely plot of grass.
I walks round it in the dark,
Then I finks I'm in Hyde Park,
Which makes me fancy I'm kind of class.

CHORUS: If yer steps into my entrance 'all
An' wants ter send yer card in
To tell me what's yer name, and what's yer biz,
If yer wants ter see my duck-pond,
Or ter walk arahnd me garden,
Why, you've only got to stop just where you is.

[Funny, it doesn't include the biggest part of what I posted earlier. I guess I mistakenly conflated another song with the one we wanted. ]
