21 Apr 10 - 09:30 AM (#2891312) Subject: BS: Allowing threads to die peacefully From: Hamish I was going to ask how posting a message about allowing a specific thread to die preacefully was helping to achieve that end - in that selfsame thread - and then I thought "Wait a minute: isn't there a logical disconnect herein?" ~8^) |

21 Apr 10 - 11:25 AM (#2891374) Subject: RE: BS: Allowing threads to die peacefully From: Jeri It's a way of saying "I don't like this thread, and I don't want anyone else to post to it." If it has any effect at all, it's usually the opposite-than-intended one. All anyone can do is steer clear of threads they don't like. It's not about controlling what other people do, but about doing what YOU like. |
21 Apr 10 - 11:33 AM (#2891381) Subject: RE: BS: Allowing threads to die peacefully From: catspaw49 There is a rule here for BS threads that states no thread can die until it comes down to less than 5 people posting to it and they have all stated their positions on the subject at least 172 times each. Come to think of it, there are a lot of threads where that would be a good talent to have, to be able to write something so utterly boring that nobody would dare post afterwards - like those "What Is Folk?" brawls, and I'd like to be able to use that on the Catholic threads, and on and on and on.... |

21 Apr 10 - 03:08 PM (#2891542) Subject: RE: BS: Allowing threads to die peacefully From: McGrath of Harlow Scouse An authentic production of Scouse should allow the spoon to stand straight up in the bowl! For veggies, simply remove the meat from the recipe and cook as normal and you have 'Blind Scouse' . Scouse Serves: 6 People 900g/2lb neck of lamb, cubed (remove fat first) 450g/1lb stewing or braising steak, cubed (remove fat first) 600ml/1pt beef stock, plus extra hot water for topping up Oil for frying 3 onions, peeled and sliced 900g/2lb potatoes, peeled and sliced 900g/2lb carrots or parsnips or swede, peeled and cubed (or a mixture) seasoning to taste 1 tbsp fresh thyme Recipe Preheat the oven to gas 3/325F/170C. Melt a small amount of oil in a large heavy-based pan (or, alternatively, use a metal casserole dish). Seal the lamb and beef cubes quickly in the hot oil, turning often. When the meat begins to brown, add the onions, and cook for 5 minutes stirring often. Pour into a casserole and add all other ingredients except the salt. With cheap cuts of meat it's always best to add the salt towards the end of the cooking time, otherwise it will make the meat too tough. Add enough hot water to just cover all the ingredients. Cover with a lid and cook in the centre of the oven for 4 hours until the vegetables are cooked through and the ingredients are softer and mixed together. Taste, adjust the seasoning. |

Moribund, incoherent flagellation revitalizes alliterative dyspepsia. Ancillary breadwinners correlate deciduous eviscerated flotillas-gratuitously haranguing incendiary Jacobites. (it's just a stream-of-conciousness vocabulary exercise I do sometimes when trying to get to sleep...instead of counting sheep. The rules are .... must be a complete phrase or sentence which makes grammatical sense, need NOT make real sense, and each word must be at least 3 syllables. I debated allowing myself prepositions and articles, but that made it too easy. Extra points for getting the spelling right in print, which doesn't apply when done entirely in the head. Also, extra points for using all the same beginning letter, or for each word being in alphabetical order (#3). Getting past I & J is a bonus.) |
