BS: Travelling America

Hi

I'm spending a month taking Greyhound round America and I was wondering if it was possible for me to stay somewhere on the following nights: Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 17th June; Kansas City, Missouri on the 18th June; New York on the 26th June - 1st July and Washinton DC on the 2nd - 5th July.

I would be very grateful if I can have somewhere to stay in these places

Thanks a lot

Richard

What are you going to see/do during the trip, Richard?
It sounds like it could be kind of fun..

You haven't been a frequent poster, that is for sure, but you did join a while back. Do you have a few folks you correspond with via PM? Maybe they'll notice this thread, otherwise, you might want to contact them.

Search through the archives for the bus trips that Marion took in probably 2003 or 2004. I just found the photos in the Events section for photos, under "Marion Visits Stilly River Sage, March, 2004"

She had a great strategy for using bus passes and sleeping on the bus so she took long trips between places and went back and forth.

Are you looking for a bed or couch to sleep on, or recommendations for hotels or hostels or whatever, in the areas? I will say that I think your time in Washington, D.C. might be difficult, that is a popular time of year for all of the Independence Day celebrations. And New York is expensive any time, but especially in the summer. I know a lot of folks there, but none so well that I could foist someone who is a stranger to me upon them.

Tell us more about yourself, what you're doing on this trip, and are you open to side trips or suggestions? Are your plans etched in stone?

Sometimes colleges or universities will offer dorm rooms for not too much on a day by day basis. At least they used to.

I see you are MBSLynne's son?

Yes, he is my son, so anyone who offered him a space on their floor would have my sincere gratitude too!

Love Lynne

I will be going on a car trip to Iowa and perhaps Chicago and who knows how back to Washington in late June/early July if anyone is on route back in case I go by bus or train. mg

Ummm... You're probably right, Rog.
SLS, I am travelling at night most of the time, and if I can't find anywhere to stay in Tulsa and Kansas City, I might change my plans and just take a Greyhound bus and see where I wake up. And thanks for the suggestion, Bruce. I'm looking into volunteering there for the few days when I'll be in DC.
SLS, you also asked me to tell you a bit about myself. Very simply, I'm 19, I'm an actor/singer/morris dancer who also plays the oboe and guitar. I'm good at languages, and I'm in America for a few months visiting family during my year out.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks

Richard

I've met this young man, a few years ago when I stayed with MBS Lynne one night. He seemed like a nice kid then and, with his family background, I'm pretty certain he's grown into a nice young man.

Marion had quite a sophisticated strategy for making her visits in a kind of zig zag pattern with a night of sleeping on the bus in between. She did some busking along the way also. I think the only time she had a difficulty was busking in Dallas - someone ran past and grabbed her bag of cash on the sidewalk in front of her.

We are a few hours south of Oklahoma City, on the opposite side of the state from Tulsa, so I don't really have a viable option for spending the night or more time in Tulsa. But I've heard that it is a beautiful city.
