My wife and I have spent the last 40 minutes looking up a song by some female folk group that did a song with this phrase. Please help us! It is most certainly Brecht and Weill's "The Ballad Of The Soldier's Wife" which is done by by Marianne Faithfull here on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8E8o_phubY .... but it was harmonized beautifully by a women's coffee house type harmony group. Did "Huxtable, Christiansen And Hood" or "Voices" do this one?

So, what is it you want? The words (English or German?) or a particular recording?

Also, see this thread: Lyr Req: Wife of a Soldier (Brecht)

And if you want the particular group's version, perhaps tell us where you heard it? Recently or years ago? On the radio or a recording or live?

It might help!

:)

Jackpot!   Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The group "County Down" was listed at the bottom of the words in the DT. I never searched under "Wife Of The Soldier" We used to have that album. It was excellent!
We were going crazy!

My favourite version is by Sean Cannon which was on his 'Woes of War' tape (!)

Didn't Maddy Prior do that one too?

And Martin Carthy.

There are several musical settings - Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler and Mischa Spoliansky amongst others.
