On youtube you can find some examples of Swedes who have got them out to very silly powers and speeds, one of over 530 BHP, an engine running on a stand with the exhaust pipes glowing allegedly turning out about 1,000bhp (!) and two kids in their homebrew with the speedo needle pointing vertically downwards which would translate to about 170mph, apparently on public roads!! ALthough I'd also like a series 7 or series 9 Jag, or a 3.8 Mark II, or a D-type replica. I have ridden in a Bentley Mulsanne turbo (not the full 400 bhp jobbie linked to above) and was underwhelmed. Not as much sheer grunt as I would have expected and the redline was a mere 4,500 revs. |

Women don't throw their clothes at me when I drive past - they add an extra layer. It's an old warhorse but it's only done 90,000 miles in 23 years and the 2.3 litre engine can pull 5 musicians and a ton of gear. Oh, and on a good day, I can get over 20mpg. |

They looked so cool, and Wrangler owners wave to each other on the road, so it seems like you're joining a club that doesn't have any specific rules as to membership, except for the car. It lasted me 10 years and 200,000 miles, but in the end, with repairs, I think I paid twice what it originally cost, and in the end, had so many things wrong with it that my mechanic couldn't fix that I had to replace it. I don't recommend Wranglers, regardless of how much fun they are to drive. |

For me, a midlife crisis is paying $4 a gallon for gas again. Now, I'm better prepared. So drive your gas guzzlers and impress the ladies. You won't have the money to take them anywhere but you sure got a nice car. To me, a gas economic car is the way to go. Those who think having some monster that goes from 0-60 in 3 seconds is macho and liberating are stupid fools. Wake up. The only gas-saver I won't buy is a smart car. I want something that won't send me through the windshield if I collide with some kid on his tricycle. |

Earlier this year I swapped my sensible automatic family car for a Mazda Cabriolet - a little sports car. It's a 1989, is rather well used and it's a manual but it looks like this! It seems as if they're only available in Japan or NZ unless you import them yourself. I really enjoyed driving it to work and around town but since I had the health change and 2 ops a couple of months ago, I can't change gears with that arm!!! So I've had to use Mitch's old automatic Toyota and leave the Mazda for him. Maybe in the summer......... Robyn |

Having a cartoonists bent, I removed the Cadillac emblems and lettering and replaced it a chrome front hood Peace sign that makes it look Mercedesesque. With the remaining chrome letters from the park Ave and the deville, the back of the car now reads "keep parked" The carbon footprint of the used car will be less than buying a new Prius since the energy of manufacture will not be exceeded by the caddy's fuel usage for the next 8-10 years. |

Used to blow 'vettes and 911's away--much to their surprise. I did that while working at a SAAB/Citroen dealership in NJ. During that time, I began to appreciate the Citroen D types [DS--Greek for goddess, ID--French for idea]. I would love to own one again but would happily settle for a new Cit, even with the changes required for Federalization. The D's were true Grand Touring cars and worthy to stack up against any Mercedes of the era. Lady Hillary owns a 91 Toyota MR2 which is a real head turner and also an 81 Celica GT which we have recently put classic plates on and intend to rent to the movies. Anyone out there know where we can get a sunroof seal for the Celica? |

Oh yeah, we also put the high pressure lube system, steel balance shaft gear and a few other details I have forgotten. And yes, it surprised the hell out of us, too. Sometimes, you just get it right. Annoyed the heck out of the State inspectors when the non standard exhaust system had no leaks and no problems other than being loud. The reason for the upgrade was the fact that I got tired of replacing bad crankshafts and replacing spark plugs when I was changing driving style. The last straw was burning out two of three pistons in Rhode Island on the way to visit friends in Maine. I ended up renting a car to tow the car back to NJ after finishing my vacation. |
