I have a Unitarian Universalist hymnal with a song called 'purer than purest'. The words are by e.e. cummings from XAIPE. The music is by Vincent Persichetti. Hope this helps! I can give you the lyrics if you want them...

I know someone that has written some tunes to a couple of cummings poems...I'll see if they are willing to share...

Subject: Lyr Add: YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE
From: Coralena

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet mellow song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though the sky be tossed and dark
Walk on, walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you will never walk alone
And you will never walk alone

This is what I recall of the song, we sung it at our 8th grade graduation and that was a few years back. :)

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE
(Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II)
(Music by Richard Rogers)
(Lyrics contributed by Rien Van Houten)

When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.

You're straining my imagination--I know Elvis Presley did a version of "You'll Never Walk Alone", and Pink Floyd used a piece of it, but Robert Cray?

"Don´t Be Afraid od the Dark" by the Robert Cray Band is one of the finest Blues I ever heard.

Some of you sent me some days ago lyrics with a similiar title, but that was a song by Elvis Presley.

I already searched the whole Internet .... sorry!

Hi

Failing that try a search for "Jen's lyrics." Sorry I can't remember the exact address but there are plenty of lyrics there and other links which should get you to Robert Cray. I'm a big fan of Strong Persuader" myself.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK
(Dennis Walker)
--------------------------------------------

Dead of night baby, we're finally alone.
You pull down the shades and I unplug the phone.
Put on some music, Marvin Gaye's real nice.
Once we get settled, I turn out the light.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
I'll be there to hold you
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark

It might be scary, until your eyes adjust.
Don't fear the shadows it's me you can trust.
I'm at my best in a pitch black room.
Hold on tight baby, feel the power soon.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
Baby no..no..
I'll be there to hold you
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark

You might tremble, you might shake
Scream out loud, you may even break
I know which mood suits you fine
You'll beg for more
You'll forget about the night

Don't Be Afraid Of the dark
Baby no...no...
I'll be there to hold you
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
I'll be there to hold you
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark

Don't Be Afraid Of the dark
Baby no...no...
I'll be there to hold you
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark

I understand The Mudcat Discussion Forum as a Folk and Blues Forum.

Nevertheless any song like this Blues was developed by human beings and this song has anything to call him classic in a near future.

I hope that some people are really happy when they find the lyrics here. OK?

Dennis Walker wrote DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Philip Walker recorded it on "Blues," 1988, and the Robert Cray Band recorded it on "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," also in 1988. Both albums have been reissued as CDs. Sound samples can be heard at Yahoo! Music.

Sometimes the first song that comes to mind isn't the right one. This is what Robert Cray sings. It's a funky, bluesy number.

Yeah, quite a ways from YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE, innit? They won't be singing that at any 8th grade graduations.
