Help with lead sheet (Len Chandler song)

I've been looking through the Broadside magazine archives and I was very happy to find they have music for Keep On Keepin' On by Len Chandler, but I'm confused by one things. D7/3* appears with the chords with * stating (3rd on bass). Can anyone let me know what this means? I'm sure it's something incredibly simple, but it's got me stumped. Here's the link to the music, it's on page 3.

Just taken quick peek. From the chord sequence, I'd say it's actually D7sus4, which is root D7 played with little finger fretting the G note on the top string 3rd fret. This is an unresolved sort of chord which then resolves on the following G chord. Haven't tried it, but have a go and see what you think.

Just got the guitar out and checked this - and changed my mind. The "3" in D7/3 refers to the bass 6th string, where you fret the 2nd fret with the thumb. The 3rd note of the scale of D is F# - and the 2nd fret on the 6th string is F#. This would lead naturally into the bass G on the 6th string in the following chord. The music is asking you to emphasise this bass note.

Makes more sense than my previous post, I think.
