I have just come back from the Circus with my granddaughter, and have promised her that I will get the song about 'the lion that ate our Albert' - did a search on that phrase - no success - can someone please give me a link to the lyrics please, or put the lyrics up.

Its a Marriot Edgar onologue, perfomed most notably by Staney Holloway. Doubleday sell t as far as I recall.

Sheziaussie:
The links above should help, but I notice you mention it as a song. It is usually done as a recitation. If it was sung at the circus, was it to a well known tune?

Cheers

Stanley wrote a follow-up to 'Albert and the Lion' and 'Albert's Return' in 1978 called Albert's Reunion

Never heard it done as a song, always a recitation, billed as a 'Musical Monologue' because it was accompanied by a piano when performed by S.H.

I do/did quite a few monologues, and have been accosted by a concerned little girl about this one. Make sure you know 'Albert Comes Back' before you do 'The Lion and Albert' in mixed company.;-)

John Conolly wrote a version called "Albert Goes to Cleethorpes" which is on his "Send Us A Postcard" CD, well worth getting.

Oh for the days when Cleethorpes Festival was on the Pier - as in Albert Goes to Cleethorpes.

John gave me a copy of it - I think it's great

And Bernard Wrigley and I wrote another follow-up called 'Albert, The Lion and The Drink' about Albert Ramsbottom's son, Albert Junior, following in his Dad's footsteps. There's a live version of it on one of Bernard's many CDs. If you ever hear someone called Monologue Joe performing this and claiming he wrote it, you can tell him from me he's a liar.
