01 Sep 99 - 01:14 PM (#110407) Subject: Rick's New CD Escapes. From: Rick Fielding Well, since Jeri let the (mud)cat out of the bag, I'd better do the birth announcement. The CD that I've been working on over the last few months is indeed about to see the light of day. It's called "This One's The Dreamer" on Borealis Records, and is a collection of old, new, and a couple of original songs. For anyone reasonably new to the "Cat", the instrumental "Catspaw's Rag" is indeed in honour of our resident intergalactic sage. I've been trying for an hour to not screw up the URLs for Borealis, Folk-Legacy (who'll also be carrying it) and my own home page. T'aint no use. Nuthin' works! Tryin' to work the HTML language brings on the same anxiety attacks I used to get before Algebra class! I've asked "catter" Tony Burns if he'll kindly guide anyone who wants the CD in the right direction, and hopefully the info will appear in this space in a few hours. Oh, boy, would I rather be singin' and playin' than trying to mess with computer stuff! Thanks Rick |

I'd been browsing the Cistine Chapel website and thought "Hey, this L.D. Vinci guy is some kind of painter. With a bit of luck he could go places". Then I thought about that C.F. Martin guy, and figured he could use a plug to help sell some of those 0-18 guitars. Well when neither one was lookin, I asked Mudcatter Paul Mills (album designer, hot picker, engineer, and ham sandwich maker) to grab one of those guitars and stick it in God's hand. I figured after buggin' Him with a million questions all these years, He'd understand. After all, even though I'm still pretty confused about religions in general, I DO sing a lot of Gospel songs! Here's the correct info: Mike Angelo painted God, Curly Boy Stubbs took the picture of the guitar and played the "St. Louis Tickle" on it, and L. D. Vinci made the ham sandwiches. C. F. By the way Michael, I spent 10 minutes on the Mudcat and then went back to "polishing the pearl", oiling the "board", and changing the pegs on my new acquisition. (see Cheap guitar thread) I erroniously told a couple of people that Borealis Records didn't have an 800 number. Of course they do..it's an "877" number. Their website is up near the top of this thread. Tony, thanks for the nice words about the CD. "The Wind & the Rain" , "In My Life", "Salty Dog"---fine singing---SUPERB backup band with Paul Mills/Curly Boy Stubbs (who did such fine work with Stan Rogers), Grit Laskin, Bill Garrett, Chris Whitely & several others. When I asked him to do that AND make the print REALLY large, I never thought it would expand the booklet to a VERY substantial 39 pages! The booklet with the Borealis album is also quite extensive, and I had the choice of either going with a couple of pages of pictures of everyone involved, or bigger print and chords. I chose somewhat bigger print (I can read it without the specs) and the pics with a short blurb. Figured since most folks are computerised now I could post the chords on my web-site - which I'm trying to do now. Rick |

They're both really quite simple. The first is from the C note on the 5th string and runs down to the G note on the 6th string. The bass run is: C plus two down strums (2,3) remember it's in waltz time, B (2,3), A (2,3), G (2,3) The second run starts on the G note (3rd string open) and comes down F(2,3),E(2,3), D(2,3). The key to making these runs sound smooth is what chords you're strumming on the "2,3". So, back to the first run: C (strum C chord during the "2,3". B (strum Em), A (strum Am), G..I use an Am7 (index finger on 2nd string, 1st fret. middle finger on 4th string, 2nd fret, and ring finger on 6th string, 3rd fret.) Second Run plus chords: G (just strum top 3 strings open), F (same thing), E (ditto), D (yup, same again)
