Ray Padgett new 2 CD album

Just escaped, hope self publicity is allowed? 49 songs with accompanying booklet of words, which are in Les Barker's words "fairly accurate" ~ *Traditionalist English Songs* acappella, just right for a resource and for one off listening as well sit back and listen to the words and the stories!

I hope!

Ray

Just to clarify ~ Les Barker hasnt heard it, I was using his phrase to desrribe my word processing, which is not too bad

Les may or may not endorse the recordings
Sorry Les!

John MacKenzie liked the first CD, must have fallen asleep on Christmas Eve!! LOL

All the best and I do hope the few that have escaped are liked, and the booklet is in fact, in my view, an interesting read carrying some other snippets of info and merriment

Raymond, Kindest fraternal greetings from the sunny side of the Pennines
Firstly let me wish you Seasonal Greetings, All The Best for Christmas and the New Year. May I extend this greeting to all at Mudcat?
Word had already reached the County Palatine of this recording and publication, as we have a spy in every camp!
and as a One we wish you every success with it. It is cheering to me that here we have a Gentleman, who for many, many years has toiled away at the coalface of proper traditional Folk Music and Song, who has been encouraging to everyone in it, and has even promoted events for it,now here he is finally getting some time in the spotlight himself.
I could not be more pleased.
Mine's a Pint!
Cheers, Scowie

Subject: RE: Ray Padgett new 2 CD album
From: GUEST,Scowie

I received this recording two days before New Years Eve, (they have strange notions on the suitable time for such releases in Yorkshire!)
That was the day of our Festive Sing and so subsequently, it is only today,(New Years Eve) that I have been able to spare time for a listen, and then only to selected tracks throughout.
The package is beautifully presented, the booklet with the song words, and notes on the same, is indeed comprehensive. On the tracks I played there was no sign of Rays Concertina, just pure simple, but extremely artfull and effective singing, with crystal clear diction in the age-old Traditional manner.
The great beauty of this is that here is an archive of material ideal for learning from, not only the song but in the manner that they SHOULD be presented.
It is all so obviously a Labour of Love, particularly to the oncoming generation, I say, Look, listen, and learn, for this is indeed a gift to you from one Raymond Padgett of Barnsley.
Well Done Old Soldier, do try to smile next time you have your photo taken!
Cheers Scowie.

Nah then Scowie looks like several barrels of ale are called for, here

Seriously I think the comments I would/should but didn't dare to hope for have been expressed here

Traditional songs are our heritage and we old 'uns are used to hearing 'em!

I do hope that new artists are able to access such material from source singers, but there are some here too!

Back to me pie,
Cheers

Hope to be at the Bridge, Rotherham as an "Off The Rails" trip on Monday 10th where some of the old Th'Antiques ~ Nick Caffery, George Critchley, and Rob Malloney ~ and assorted other Lancastrians and Yorkies may well turn in weather permitting

Rob Slow, Dave Neale and Roy Blackman # starts at NOON

Now if you are from UK and in in your early 60s and watched Double your Money, you will no doubt remember Roy Blackman as a "memory man" on sport

he is a folky nowadays and in my view a genius, altho age has taken its toll!

Good to hear the songs sung without accompaniment, as they were probably written to be.

Rest assured Raymond it is indeed a fine recording that will be of inestimable value to those that follow us in the years to come, as every word is distinct, and so the song can easily be learnt or passed on, so very few recordings have this, yet it is vital.
You did an exceptionally fine job, ignore anyone poking a stick at it!
Now Lad get your feet up and get your health fully recovered,
Best Wishes from Lancashire's Fair Acres,

Just got back from a stay in Scotland to find this latest series of posts to the thread.
I'm really glad to hear you're "coming on a treat" now Ray, and look forward to seeing you up and about again before too long.
It's always a treat to hear you sing, and I have long valued your experience, opinions and good sense in matters of song.
I do however take issue with your assessment of my review as "not too flattering". Yes, in my considered analysis I pointed out some drawbacks and discrepancies, primarily concerning the actual presentation of the set; but after all, that's part of any conscientious reviewer's duty!
I would suggest you read again the all-important concluding sentence - "Even notwithstanding its "ha'porth of tar" aspects, though, this enjoyable and entertaining release constitutes an indispensible archive resource; Ray is thus to be heartily congratulated for his initiative and personal achievement."
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to full health, Ray.
