Marry Waterson & Oliver Knight

I was given a promo of this new album by Marry Waterson & Oliver Knight just before Christmas and I'm enjoying it considerably. It's rather stark and rather wonderful, full of curiosity. At first it's a little unusual listening to someone who sounds so much like their mother (Lal Waterson, I mean obviously) but Marry is clearly an intriguing songwriter in her own right. I'm going to be watching to see how this album goes down in the mainstream press. Lal Waterson's albums, IIRC, were more or less ignored by the mainstream press upon release, whereas now, ironically, her music a much higher profile. As this album is so obviously related to Lal's music (no pun intended) I wonder if the musical climate has changed sufficiently for the mainstream to embrace it? Having said that, it's not a mainstream sounding album particularly, however good it is. I look forward to buying a "proper" finished copy and hope it contains the lyrics; they're something special I feel, to be delved into and explored.

A brother and sister combination - the next generation of Watersons!
Great.

Although they don't seem to be listed anywhere online theres a couple of live dates early next year - 11th Feb supporting James Yorkston in Edinburgh, March 10th at the Green Note in London and presumably other places.

This is great news - I've seen Marry sing with the whole Waterson clan and her voice is amazing. Often wished she would record and now I read that she is. Hoorah!

Thank you for the link, that song sounds wonderful. I'm looking forward to a full CD of their music.

As well as the http://watersonknight.com/ site that's already been linked above, they have a Facebook page, a MySpace page and Marry gives out occasional updates via her Twitter account.

As far as I can tell the song that plays on their main website page is the only one available at the moment.

As well as a couple of gigs with James Yorkston in Feb / March, they have a handful of their own gigs scheduled for around May (check the events tab on the Facebook page). I've just noticed that one of the Yorkston gigs is just down the road from me (Deaf Institute, Manchester) so I look forward to checking them out in February.
