Is there anyone out there who can help with the lyrics to the Dransfield's song 'You can't change me now'? I have the song on record but am struggling to determine sections of the lyrics.Thanks.

Hi, Swaleman-
Can you give us a start by posting what you've figured out already?

Note that I've changed the thread title to something more specific.

As far as I'm aware, this song has never been released commercially (in the UK) except as a track on the Free Reed retrospective Up To Now, a 2-CD double in 1997, though the brothers (and the band Dransfield) did play it extensively on stage. I understand that certain releases of The Fiddler's Dream (the band CD) included it but it's not on mine. The UTN recording comes from a John Peel session broadcast in 1976. Can't really help with the lyrics. Though I've listened to the many times, it's too rock'n'roll for me to make out. Better email Barry through his website.

The Castle CD reissue of The Fiddler's Dream has a bonus CD with several BBC recordings of You Can't Change Me Now. And Barry recorded it again in 1994 for his solo CD Be Your Own Man. I've just copied the lyrics from the liner note onto my Mainly Norfolk website, hopefully without typos:

YOU CAN'T CHANGE ME NOW
(as sung by Dransfield)
Songwriter??

Today I feel like I've done it all,
I've run my head against every wall.
I hate to say it but I think its true:
I've done all the growing that I'm gonna do.

Chorus (after each verse):
'Cause you can't change me now
No you can't change me now
Been held too long and now I'm gone
And you can't change me now

Sometimes I feel like a fish in a bowl,
The circles tying up my soul.
Come on and stick me with a pin:
I bet you I won't feel a thing.

Doctor, doctor please don't frown,
I'm walking a foot above the ground.
I'm treading air, I'm looking for health.
Oh forget it, doctor, I'll cure myself.

Can a man reach the end of the line
Where the mud's all honey, the water's wine?
Please don't make me go and join
Those white faced children on the early train.

Who's the songwriter, Reinhard? Thanks a lot for posting the lyrics.

Barry Dransfield wrote it himself.

Thanks Reinhard, I did try to work out the lyrics of the song but was incorrect in many parts and slightly baffled in others. Your help in submitting the lyrics is much appreciated. I have the recording on the 'Fiddler's Dream' CD. but there are no lyrics added.
p.s. Also thanks Joe for changing the thread.
