17 Sep 99 - 02:33 PM (#115012) Subject: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNelson sang..) From: JedMarum Tracy Nelson sang a song years ago on a 1970's vintage album with Mother Earth, a wonderful blues tune with a chorus that went like this; It's a sad situation not just because I'm so blue It's a sad situation 'cause I'm still lovin' you" Does anyone know anything about this song? Where did it come from? Who else has recorded it? Words, chords? |
17 Sep 99 - 04:20 PM (#115055) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: WyoWoman No, but it is on a CD that's been re-released -- actually TWO CDs of Tracy's Mother Earth recordings. I ordered mine off of Amazon.com... If you don't get the words in a few days, I'll have the CD in the early part of next week and can get the words to you. I'm eager to re-learn "Temptation Took Control of Me" and "Soul of Sadness." I used to know those songs like the back of my hand. "Soul of Sadness" got me through the divorce from my kids' dad -- very poignant memories attached to that one, I'll tell you. Best, WyoWoman |

18 Sep 99 - 12:21 PM (#115294) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: WyoWoman Actually, she's sort of experiencing a revival now. I saw her on "Austin City Limits" with two other female singers whose names escape me now. This was not too long ago and let me tell you, she hasn't gotten any worse for the wear. She's another one of those singers who've inspired me (like Mary Travers, Ronnie Gilbert and Holly Near) to just plant my feet, throw back my head and SING! I know she has a couple of new CDs out and she's been performing in the Bay Area all this time, apparently.

I have recently discovered Ed Miller (I know a very different kind of music)and will be buying some of his stuff very soon. I'll look into Tracey at the same time. Thanks for the info. |

20 Sep 99 - 11:01 AM (#115720) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: Winters Wages Just as a point of info I believe Tracy is the daughter of the late Ricky Nelson. If it is the same one, she also has had a bout with lukemia a few years back and is in remission and doing quite well I understand. I wonder if this is the correct Tracy Nelson?? Winters Wages |
20 Sep 99 - 11:58 PM (#116027) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: WyoWoman I don't think so because I first heard her with Mother Earth back when my son was a baby and he's 27 now, so the timing isn't right. HOWEVER, I heard a young woman play piano with Willie Nelson a few years back in the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla., whose name was Tracy Nelson, not the same Tracy from the Bay ARea, and she very well might be the right age to be Ricky Nelson's kid.
Liam-- One-click shoppin' will be the death o' me. At least of my bank account. (Wait, wait. I feel a blues tune comin' on... ww

She used to appear also in a tv weekly called "The Father Dowling Mystery Series"...as I get older it becomes a blurrr BG Regards Winters Wages |
22 Sep 99 - 01:28 AM (#116335) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: WyoWoman Liam -- absofreakinlootly you can put it to music. The meter is probably problematic, but feel free to shape to fit. WintersWages -- Isn't it interesting that we now think someone in her thirties is "quite young..."? Seriously, I think there must be a cadre of creative Tracy Nelson's out there in the world. The name crops up all over the place and I don't even know if it's just two women! WW |
22 Sep 99 - 10:13 AM (#116418) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: Winters wages Yes, I know. My own son doesn't know who Ricky Nelson was and he is 29...Im not that old. (at least I don't think so BG) When I try to explain some of the songs and their hx..no one is really interested it seems these days. I played in a band that used to play (in fact we recorded it) Spancill Hill. When I read some of the threads on it's hx (history) I can't do it without getting all choked up...Sometimes I think Im getting soft as years go by..Oh well..Im getting off my soap box now. My dad dug up his vinyl collection and introduced me to Mother Earth's "Bring Me Home". I fell in love with it, and Tracy. I'm a singer myself and want to cover "soul of sadness" and the one about the midnight sky. Anyone have ideas where I might find the music/lyrics for these songs? I can't believe Tracy isn't more represented on the web! Bring Me Home is one of the best things I've heard. Thanks a lot! ~karuna |

15 Jan 06 - 05:52 PM (#1649068) Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Its a Sad Situation (TracyNel From: Jim Dixon SAD SITUATION was written by Clyde Pitts. It's been recorded by Larry Ballard, Delia Bell & Bill Grant, Kate Brislin & Katy Moffatt, Tracy Nelson, Open Road, and Vernon Oxford. allmusic lists 14 original albums and 3 compilations/reissues by Tracy Nelson. Rounder Records has several of them still in print. The album "Bring Me Home," by Mother Earth (the band of which Tracy Nelson was a member), originally issued as an LP in 1971, has recently been reissued on the Wounded Bird label, as CD #6431, 2005. It contains SOUL OF SADNESS, and what I assume is the other song Karuna mentioned, TONIGHT THE SKY'S ABOUT TO CRY. Tracy Nelson the singer was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1947. Tracy Nelson the actress was born in Santa Monica, California in 1963. She is the daughter of Ricky Nelson, and sister of the twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson who formed the band Nelson in the 1990s. |

10 Jun 17 - 11:42 PM (#3860190) Subject: Lyr Add: SAD SITUATION (Tracy Nelson) From: Jim Dixon SAD SITUATION Written by Clyde Pitts As recorded by Tracy Nelson, 1969. Well, I've known some sad situations before, And I've faced a lot of temptations before. Yes, I've known others like you with a heart made of stone, And by now I guess I should be used to living alone. CHORUS: It's a sad situation, not just because I'm so blue. It's a sad situation, 'cause I'm still loving you. I never thought I'd be feeling like this, Living old mem'ries of your tender kiss. You're not the first one that I thought my heart wanted so, But you'll be the first one to take part of me when you go. |
