A three minute documentory film titled "History is Sung" has just been released by the Seattle Museum of History and Industry (MOHI). This film was the creation of "Christa Carnell", a Seattle based video producer. The film documents the ballad of "The Old Settler" that was written in the 1880's by Judge Frances Henry, of Olympia, Washington.

The late Ivar Haglund, a famous Seattle restauratour, used a phrase in the last line of the song "Acres of Clams" as the theme for his famous seafood restaurant. I knew Ivar a bit, I met him when I was ten. In 1962 he decided that I was singing his theme song poorly, and sat me down to teach me the "correct" way. I've sung it that way ever since.
Here is the link to the film ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m27D4kp5LKE

One of the more astounding parts of this film is that, after well over fifty years, the audio of Ivar singing the song, and me singing the song, show that we are still singing it in the same key, our guitars are still in tune with each other, and our pacing is the same! bob(deckman)nelson

This is a terrific video, and I hope lots of people get a chance to see it. I think you need to include "Acres of Clams," "Old Settler's Song," and Seattle in the keywords to help people find it. Perhaps also the names of Ivar Haglund and of Bob Nelson.

As far as we've been able to determine in this origins thread, "The Old Settler's Song (Acres of Clams)" was written by Francis D. Henry and published in 1902.

Nice job, Bob.
