11 May 11 - 10:32 PM (#3152459) Subject: BS: Anyone know what happened to autolycus? From: Janie Hasn't posted since summer 2008. I think he had some health issues and was not a spring chicken. Also think he was in the UK but am not sure. I enjoyed his thoughtful posts, even though I operated from a somewhat different paradigm. He nearly always posted something that was food for thought. Anyone know how he is faring, or that he is still alive? Regards, Janie |
12 May 11 - 12:49 AM (#3152503) Subject: RE: BS: Anyone know what happened to autolycus? From: Joe Offer I heard from autolycus just a couple of weeks ago. He's doing fine. I e-mailed him about your inquiry, Janie. I've always wondered what "autolycus" means - it's certainly one of the more puzzling user names I've seen here. -Joe- |

From: GUEST,Alan Whittle Autolycus is a character in Shakespeare's A Winters Tale. he's sings ballads and steals things - 'a snapper up of unconsidered trifles'. So you know where to look if the custard goes missing. |

12 May 11 - 05:38 AM (#3152623) Subject: RE: BS: Anyone know what happened to autolycus? From: autolycus Greetings from Norwich in Norfolk. And very pleased to get back. I diverted myself into a british-based talkboard then hosted by the mighty Guardian newspaper. It was more obsessive-compulsive than here because the responses werre/are so quick, and, frankly, because it was a more combative place. So I'll be pleased to be allowed back here, where people are nicer, pleasanter, more tolerant and good-humoured. The combativeness was a bit of a drug, and I'm in danger now of sounding a bit sharper here, so I'll look for my softer side. I'll happily answer any questions while i get my feet under the table. I feel a little of a fraud being here as I listen to far more Classical than jazz, which I do like a lot,or folk, which I'm intrigued by and read about occasionally while as for blues - sorry it's not my thing. The 'autolycus' thing is that I have a magpieish mind that picks up mental detritus [just as I like finding off-beat LPs and books in junky places]; in other words, what others consider junk. It's been quite a journey otherwise over the last few years. Then again, I haven't offered a complete autobiography here at mudcat, nor do I know much about anyone else; tho' i got to know **daylia** and Peace a little, and look forward to renewing acquaintes. I even seem to have enough to travel a bit. autolycus |

From: GUEST,Alan Whittle What is it Bladder says, some idiots would laugh at Shakespeare's bloody awful jokes even......! Autolycus does sing ( I checked it) Jog on, jog on, the foot-path way, And merrily hent the stile-a: A merry heart goes all the day, Your sad tires in a mile-a. which doubtless has the tourists dutifully pissing themselves at Stratford (in much the same way that traditional English folk song is rumoured to entertain). However Autolycus actually exits in the penultimate scene a penitent and reformed character - so he says! |

From: skipy Autolycus was a "gas sniffing" device fitted to the Nimrod aircraft & de modded from the fleet in 1976, I know, I removed a lot of them & still have one in my garage! The Med. became so "full of fumes" that we could not detect Russian Subs using it so it was removed, perhaps he is ex Nimrods! Skipy |
