BS: What's up with young Aussie Men?

What's up with young Aussie Men?

A rather surprising survey report contradicts conventional wisdom with the declaration that a small but significant percentage of young Aussie men are complaining about "too much sex."

Details at Young Aussie men want less sex

This report appeared a few days ago (02 May 2011) and the Reuters article gives no particularly credible explanation for this unexpected phenomenon.

A possible factor contributing to the unexplained responses to the survey appeared more recently, in an msnbc report about a Supersized brothel in Sydney; but this appears to be a pending development and would not explain results in a survey report already released.

Also appearing recently, and perhaps some of our Aussie fellows can tell us whether it's a factor that might explain the unusual survey result:

Million Camels in Australia causing havoc

I certainly have no intention of suggesting what other countries might consider "improprieties." Just looking for an explanation for the apparent contradiction between "common expectation" and this particular survey result.

Maybe we should vote on which of the above two factors might have the larger influence, or perhaps others can add alternate explanations.

No comment on Aussie men or the brothels, but I heard an interesting fact the other day. Did you know that Australia has the largest population of wild camels in the world? In the Egyptian deserts where you'd expect to find some, the camels are mostly owned or farmed.

Hummmm...Aussie men want less sex, and Australia has too many camels...the mind boggles at the possible connections.

it just looked to me like some of us have insufficient understanding of what the Aussies do with all those funny critters that they have and that we don't.

(punchline to the only old joke *I* ever heard along those lines)(not set in Australia) (not terribly funny, either)

Clearly there are two potential candidates for BJ's joke; the one I know would end "female camel, Sir, nothing queer about Carruthers."

Wonder which he had in mind (or maybe still another?)

Sex is like chocolate in one way. It IS possible to get too much of it.

A similar (to the camels) annoyance was observed in the southwest US, after the Army (in the late 1800s I believe) brought in a small herd of camels - and a camel jockey who's name escapes me - in the belief that the SW Arizona Territory was mostly desert so the camels would make great steeds for the cavalry.

Unfortunately, most of the Territory was stony desert rather than sandy desert, and the stones pretty much crippled the camels so they were "released to fend for themselves."

There were still scattered claims of camel sightings as recently as the 1950s - 60s, but none verified so far as I heard.

On the other hand, the burros that the gold prospectors "lost" were quite prolific and a notorious and noxious pest; but they might (still?) have all the "usefulness capacity" of an Aussie camel.

In the wild, both are incredibly nasty beasts but I've met a few girls like that who were on (limited) occasion quite fun so I'll acquiesce to the opinions of those more experienced in "beast handling."

Maybe they just take a bit longer to get going.

When the 12 Meter Yacht Dame Pattie raced for the "America's Cup," the Aussie crew was a pretty wild bunch around Newport but also notably a good bit older than other 12 M crews. Soon they had shirts printed up which read, Daughters Guard Your Mothers.

The article referred to says 12% of Aussie men aged 16-24 want less sex. That's not a large proportion of them is it?

Seems to me the interesting question is.... who wants MORE sex from them that causes this reaction? I suspect the other 88% would like names.

I didn't read the article. Ask "men" 16-24 if they are getting too much sex and the stupid ones will say yes for obvious reasons... they are young and stupid. Men don't "grow up" until much later in life. Many really are stunned at that age. There are many examples in the things they do and the choices they make. The truth is, the majority are actually having far too much sex... by themselves.

Good lord, when I was FINALLY having sex with women when I was that age... hmmm... decorum prohibits me. Let's just say, I never complained. And I doubt if Aussies are any different.

So... 12%... fairly large proportion when my postulate says that this 12% is stunned as me arse for lying for whatever reason.

Bingo! (Though I will admit that it did seem funnier almost 40 years ago. Perhaps it was all in the presentation - though I remember it also made it into the Party Jokes page in an issue of Playboy from way back when.)

Naah. Beer usually increases the desire but decreases the function.
And the likelihood.

G'day,

I don't spend much time in the regions overrun by camels, but they were first imported for explorers, hoping to be the first to cross a very wide ... and dry ... continent. The Yanks might consider that we are talking about roughly the same south - north and West - East distances as the 48 contiguous states of America.

An old friend, who I would regard as among the best Aussie raconteurs, is descended from one of the "Afghans" (in his case, actually a Lebanese) who then came out with camel teams to haul heavy loads into the newly opened interior regions, during the the latter part of the 19th century.

A few years back, Patricia and I visited the Northern Territory (the top half of the middle ...) and we spent some time at Kings Canyon (Wakkertie, in local language ... ?) National Park. Rangers told me of the long drive (in the 2-ton Esky ... actually a refrigerated truck!) to top up camp supplies. They also said that the feral camels were a real problem ... invading the National Park and displacing native wildlife. One of their number had studied up on butchering ... and their meat ration is now augmented by steaks from camels, shot just outside Park boundaries ... and sliced up in their cool room with the electric meat saw they all paid for!

However, this isn't about the hypothetical subjects of the headlines from the daily rags!

Regard(les)s,

Bob

When they talk about 'too much sex' do they mean good or bad sex I wonder or sex in general?

Well, *I* don't get enough Footy. Once a year (obviously) we get the Grand Final and it's on TV in the middle of the night. We USED to get a taped game once a week but apparently Fosters wanted too much coin so it was dropped. Sniff.

Patsy, do you not remember young men? For most the only types of bad sex would be unwelcomed anal invasions upon them, other homosexual attacks (happily very rare indeed) upon them, and sex terminated before orgasm.

Gnu, you are welcome to all the football (of whatever type) you wish so long as the civilised among us do not have to suffer it.

I wonder if the 12% who said they wanted 'less sex' were saying that in order to show off? As in, "I get so many offers and so much action, I could do with a bit of a rest." (grin, smirk etc) Or, did they misread the question and tick the wrong box? Maybe they felt that all this sex didn't leave any time or energy for other things they may want to do? It would be interesting to hear more from these young chaps about their viewpoint.
