Hi I've been playing Clannad Journey's End, and the tune I think is traditional but I wanna be sure.

Makem & Clancy recorded a song by that name, written by Judy B. Goodenough. Different song?

No different song; written by Ciaran Brennan but the tune reminds me of a traditional song, perhaps irish.

There's also the Les Sullivan song, Journey's end .

That song is too recent; song I'm talking about is on Clannads album Macalla from 1985. The song is an original composition but melody reminds me of a traditional song.

It certainly has a beautiful melody.

I'm not so sure it's traditional; on that same album Clannad credited one song as Traditional, but the credits say that Noel and Padraig Duggan wrote "Journey's End"

The twins definitely wrote the tune. I'm from Gweedore so I'll ask around.

The video linked above says that "Journey's End" is licensed to YouTube by all these:

SME (on behalf of Sony BMG Music UK); CMRRA, UNIAO BRASILEIRA DE EDITORAS DE MUSICA - UBEM, LatinAutorPerf, LatinAutor - UMPG, UMPG Publishing, BMI - Broadcast Music Inc., and 2 Music Rights Societies

I think that decides the matter quite well - it is copyrighted material.

Well it's a jolly la la lalala sort of song. Macalla was one of those albums that got you by the short and curlies that you simply had to get over, a bit like those big bags of crunchy sweet dried banana slices. Bono sang on one of the songs, probably the best thing he ever did. After Macalla, the clan Clannad, unfortunately, disappeared up their own electric bums. I once played Eleanor Plunkett with Pol in the Welly at Boscastle when he came to Cornwall, my only real claim to fame. In my early days of getting to appreciate stuff other than pop and Beethoven, Clannad were pivotal, for which I'm thankful, but I did move on.
