Sore Fingers on the radio

The Sore Fingers Summer School which teaches Old Time and Bluegrass instruments and voice at Kingham Hill School near Chipping Norton will feature in a half hour documentary called Sore Fingers on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday June 2nd at 11.30 AM.

The week before Easter, BBC radio producer Lindsay Leonard spent Tuesday to Saturday morning at Sore Fingers with a couple of recording machines absorbing all the sounds she could. The end result is a half hour radio programme on Radio 4 entitled Sore Fingers. It will have no presenter, but will be more of a collection of sounds, voices, tunes and songs - a bit like a Radio Ballad.

Anyone thinking about getting there next year should listen to this!

Cheers
Ray (who may well be in it!)

The BBC website gives some details here. You'll have to excuse the aberrant apostrophes - they obviously don't do grammar at the Beeb!

After a lot of protests the BBC seem to have corrected the rogue apostrophes (apostrophe's?) on the website and even got Bill Monroe's name corrected from Munroe! At least they're listening....

The website talks about a bearded banjo player from Doncaster who's been clawhammering for 50 years .... who can they mean?

Cheers

Yes, I noticed that, Ray. Your moment of glory is evidently nigh. I do hope it's a good programme, I am looking forward to it.

Sore Fingers is called a Summer School, but it always happens at Easter time. John and Moira Wirtz who run it have a slightly twisted sense of humour...

Heard most of it - very enjoyable programme. It sounds like the school has been a lifesaver for some

oops - I was the Guest above - not sure why I wasn't logged in.

I thought the programme was very good and packed in plenty of interest within the limitations of a 30 min time slot. It was a bit OTT on the "lifesaver" angle in my opinion, but SF is certainly good for the soul! Here's the iPlayer link for anyone who's interested!

Sore Fingers on R4

PS BanjoRay certainly got quite a bit of airtime!

Apparently John Wirtz is now getting applications from people with problems!
Oh dear!

There was a bit from it included in Pick of the Week today...

If anybody heard Pick Of The Week, it featured Jock Tyldesley of the New Rope String Band on fiddle and Bob Carlin on banjo playing a couple of great Old Time fiddle tunes called Squirrel Hunters and Five Miles From Town.

Wow Ray - now that you are a national BBC radio star, can I have your autograph please! Its a great programme indeed and some nice publicity for OT and bluegrass in the UK.

We plan on booking in for the SF experience in 2012 ; just could not find the dosh this year as all the £££ has to go on the roof, and the loft, and the bathroom and the... etc
