20 Sep 99 - 08:37 PM (#115983) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Jon Freeman My list varies but these are always some of my favourites: The Silver Spire, The Moving Cloud and The Golden Eagle. There was a thread in umf recently that mentioned the Acrobat and I have subsequntly heard I have on a Tom McConville/ Pauline Cato CD which is a "must learn" tune to me and Sunday night I heard somebody playing President Garfield which has become another one I have to learn. I saw the Swedish Jig mentioned in another thread in Mudcat and Soldiers Joy in another... How can I have just 3? Jon |

21 Sep 99 - 10:05 PM (#116294) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Jeri Banish Misfortune (Varnish Me Foreskin) - I've known this tune for a long time, and I never seem to get tired of it. Morrison's Jig and The Butterfly get played a lot, but I am starting to get tired of them. Only three - sheesh! We do loads of others. It's rare anyone can get folks to learn something new, but the most recent hit is Showman's Fancy. (I think it's the same as Bill's Showman, with a whole bunch of triplets in the second part.) |
22 Sep 99 - 12:28 AM (#116326) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Alice It is hard to narrow it down to three, but at our session the crowd likes to hear Drowsy Maggie, Musical Priest, and The Mouth of the Tobique. |

23 Sep 99 - 12:18 AM (#116712) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Alice harpgirl, I searched the net for Mouth of the Tobique quite awhile ago (come to think of it, maybe 2 years now) and finally got the music as a photocopy from the Fiddler's Fakebook. Les had seen my query on Mudcat and sent me the copy. Our session group plays our own version that has evolved over time. |
23 Sep 99 - 12:21 AM (#116714) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Alice harpgirl, I just checked, and the tune finder (link above) does have Mouth of the Tobique now. |
23 Sep 99 - 11:18 AM (#116854) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: ..thanks Alice. I guess I might have to lift a finger to go to Trillian...it's just that the mental stress of my work often makes me physically lazy!! I didn't realize it was in the fakebook either and I look at that thing every week! Trillian is a great resource!harp |

07 May 00 - 02:10 PM (#224359) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Peter Kasin Bravo, McMoo, for putting in My Love is in America What a great tune! 08 May 00 - 03:09 AM (#224554) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Margaret\W I'd have to go for Hesleyside Reel, Hexham Races, and a hornpipe - either Steamboat or Redesdale or even better, one of Joe Hutton's 'traditional hornpipes' in G that he didn't have a name for! (No way would I want them all in the same set, though...) Margaret |
08 May 00 - 08:48 PM (#224941) Subject: RE: Top 3 Session Tunes/Songs From: Petr For me it changes all the time, but currently Ed Reaveys Hunters House has to be one of my all time favourite reels. There a Kerry polka I think its called Knockaboule that always brings down the house. Finally Gravel Walks, we often finish up with that one. |
