I'm sure that the answers to all of these questions have probably been dealt with here before, but as a poor Englishman who has to pay for 'net' access by the minute, I've not had the money to find them... Q1 - What does 'BS' mean? Beyond being threads that have nothing to do with folk song lyrics? Q2 - How do I submit stuff? I've got a lot of lyrics (and corrections of lyrics) that I'd like to be included in the next edition of the database. How should I submit them? Q3 - Why can't I get the latest downloadable version of DT to play tunes? I've never had problems before, and the fact that I can play all the tunes via Music Ease suggests that I've not missed any files - but whenever I try to play a tune via the DT interface I just get 'file not found' Any ideas? Q4 - Why isn't there an FAQ to answer these and other questions??? if anyone has any answers to the above I'd be very grateful if you could mail me with the answers as well as posting them here Many thanks Ed ed.pellow.virgin.net ed@pellow.co.uk

You can submit songs by posting them here or e-mailing them to either susan@digitrad.org or dick@digitrad.org, preferably in ascii (text) format. New editions of the Digital Tradition come out twice a year with about 300 new songs. The October Edition is being closed out this weekend, so your very welcome additions would be for the Spring 2000 edition. |

I got the impression from Dick Greenhaus that it was the result of an experiment that didn't work as well as hoped. I'm sure he'll have it fixed with the next edition. The blue DigiTrad lyrics search box on this page has a drop-down menu of various links related to the Digital Tradition. The "faq" you seek is titled About the DigiTrad (click). I know that Digital Tradition Co-curators Dick Greenhaus and Susan of DT will accept lyrics in any of a number of formats, as Susan explained above. However, the rest of us might prefer that you submit your lyrics by posting them here, so we can get a peek at them before they get into the database. Posting lyrics like that can generate some great discussions. Just be sure you post them in a thread that has a title that fits the song. The title of a song is usually the best title for a thread, but sometimes it's better to continue a discussion by posting your lyrics in an existing thread - but then it's a good idea to put ADD and the song title in the message title. I think Dick and Susan are pretty good at noticing lyrics that are posted, but the word ADD may help them. If you want lyrics to be considered for the database, it might not be a good idea to post them in a "BS" thread - those threads are reserved for "chat" types of communication. -Joe Offer- |

27 Sep 99 - 01:14 AM (#118011) Subject: RE: Some queries From: Barbara And if you're paying by the minute, you can just shrink (rather than close) your browser on the Mudcat thread you wish to respond to, go offline, compose your answer in the box, go back online and hit the submit message button. Another nifty trick I learned here a while back is to RIGHT click on the Forum, and open the thread I want in a separate window. Then you can reduce several if you have room, and even READ them offline, as well as respond. Blessings, Barbara |
