Hope you don't mind my adding this. I think you might get more interest if folks read it. Sounds like a great project!

About Balladears

The Balladears want to listen to the ballad in Ireland today. Is it relevant as a form of social commentary, or is it an integral element of the tourist industry ?   Do the bands and performers of today fulfill the expectations of the tourist ? In post "good friday" Ireland, is the rebel song consigned to the archive? Who are the modern day songwriters adding to the rich and plentiful hamper of ballads available?

The Balladears want and welcome your comments, so don't be shy, step up to the mic and do a turn.

I don't think there is a lot offered to respond to. There are a lot of good contemporary song produced in Ireland, see Fintan Vallely's Sing up! With regards to balladgroups, I am happy to say never see any, but I remember someone remarking a decade ago that most of them seemed to have decommissioned their instruments. And he meant that as a positive development.

Wanted to contribute, but it is one of the least helpful websites I have ever visited.
