From: Skipjack K8 This is the third of four tunes Sam Pirt recorded on the 96-bass Black Diamond Accordion, and he can't for the life of him remember the title of the tune. As with most good tunes, I'm expecting four or five different bona fide names to emerge, so please chime in with its true identity, just in case it isn't traditional and needs crediting, or even permission. 02 Dec 11 - 03:19 PM (#3267434) Subject: RE: What is the name of this tune? From: GUEST,SteveG Tell Sam Steve sez he shouldn't be recording these bloody tunes if he can't remember their names. I'd just put 'Sverige' down and hope for the best. It has a lot of phrases in common with 'When a knight won his spurs' but that doesn't help. I strongly suspect there aren't that many people on Mudcat who are au fait with Swedish trad slow airs. But, there will be a website somewhere that could help you with your quest. Very nice though! But Sam has a great ear for a good tune. |

I can't take any credit for the choice, I just handed the box over to Sam and trusted him to play some good stuff, trust he repaid with this beauty. Kat, all the pictures were taken by my partner Juliet, of our beautiful Mersea Island, which despite being in Essex, which is the posh rural end of London, is the most easterly inhabited island in the British Isles. It is within net-shooting distance of Tollesbury, the fishing village of which I am a proud son, and the place on the planet I always knew I wanted to be, but it took three decades to make it back to the marshes... |

02 Dec 11 - 08:48 PM (#3267616) Subject: RE: What is the name of this tune? From: Jeri I don't know the name of the tune, but your Black Diamond accordion sounds magnificent! I take it for granted that Sam's a genius, but he had a lovely instrument to work with. The video is a master work: beautiful, beautiful. The tune, whatever it is..., I could write a song about the tune and the way that it, combined with the video, makes me feel. It is the land's sigh after a long, tiring day. It's a warm place to sleep, it's home, it's comfort and peace and a little bit of euphoria, and I'm gonna get my fiddle out and LEARN IT TOMORROW! Got two piano accordions here, and neither one is in operating condition, and NOW I have accordion lust. Curse you, Skipjack K8! (I'm kidding-- thank you for the exquisite video!!!) |
