No, not having a song stuck in your head but having one of your own songs stuck in your head... I mean, it's been two days now... I go to sleep running thru it and then when I'm working it's there bugging me... I tried listening to the radio today and that helped until I turned the radio off... I mean, it ain't like the song is a bad one because it isn't but I'm sick of it buggin' me... Any ideas short of suicide??? (That was meant to be a joke, folks...) B~ |

From: Alan Day It is certainly a mistake of listening to a tune before you go to bed.One tune that was sent to me I love, but never put it on for the reason that I cannot get it out of my head. As for your own tune you have to complete it.Work out an ending , go right through to the end and then try to forget it. I had that problem a while back with an incessant fiddle tune, "Mason's Apron" that I couldn't shake so I decided consciously to change it with another tune and rewrite it as a composite of another tune. One of the most constructive ways to handle this problem is to write another tune or song. Or take the one you have rolling around in your head and do what so many songwriters do, recycle it. |

Yesterday morning it was 'Time to Get a Gun'; this morning it was 'America, the Beautiful'. It is as if a continuous tape runs in my brain. As for Bobert's problem - although after the sadism displayed in this thread :)- I expect it is now a different song haunting him - I agree with those who say it may be time to take a fresh look at that long-ago written song. |
