New Bee Question

Subject: New Bee Question
From: GUEST,Mike Mandaville

Hello, folks. This is my first post. This is a very active forum, with a lot of great posts. Now here is my question. I have noticed that the forum only goes back about twenty-four hours, before a search becomes necessary. Am I doing something wromg? This is a great forum, regardless. Thank you.

Hi, Mike.
There's a drop-down box thingy above the list of active threads..it says 'Age: 1 Day'. If you poke the arrow, it will give you options for seeing a longer list.
Nope, you're not doing anything wrong. The threads that are currently active are the ones that show on the 24hour list.

Welcome to Mudcat!
(somebody that can give you better/more information will surely be along soon)

Did you find the FAQ up in the banner at the top of the page?
I bet there are more answers/info there than anybody needs!

Melissa, I will check out the FAQ's. I have often found answers to some very esoteric folk-song questions by being referred from Google to the Mudcat archives, so I already know that the quality of information here can be very high, as far as folklore goes.

Welcome Mike.
If you're thinking of signing up for membership I don't think anyone's using the name 'New Bee', although it might become dated.

Cheers

Nigel

Hey, Mike, you a plumber by any chance?

Oh, hello btw.

Hello, 999. I'm not a plumber, but I remember Joe The Plumber, and I also remember Willie Sutton, who robbed banks because "that's where the money is". Now there was a fellow with some common sense, unlike the boys who on Wall Street.

Well, welcome to Mudcat. So here we go: About Mr Sutton:

It looks like "The Ballad Of Willie Sutton" has already been written. I guess I'll have to check that one out.

Thanks, 999. Recently I started researching the song "Jesse James", and I have run into three differnt versions just so far. Of course, Jesse James and Willie Sutton are kind-hearted men. You'd think that those boys on Wall Street would begin to catch on sooner or later.

I guess that GTG probably means "Got To Git"

Ya know, I cannot seem to access the digitrad. However, let me know if you need help looking for songs about JJ. Don't overlook Youtube as a resource. As a btw, which versions do you have so far?

Hello again, 999. I started out with the version which Marty Robbins sang, then I acquired the Woodie Guthrie version, and I finally ended up with the one which Alan Lomax collected. If I remember correctly, these are three entirely different sons about that kind-hearted soul.

Mike, If you go back to the Filter on the Mudcat Home Page where you refreshed the visible posts, you can type in "Jesse James" and select a time span. I chose "all" and got this result, searching both this Forum and the affectionately intertwined DT(Digital Tradition):

Bob Dyer also had a Jesse James song.

JJ is good for tourism in my home area and some of the local (and semi-local) stories are neat to hear. One of the oddest-seeming books I accidentally read was written by a guy in Denmark about JJ..it was strangely fascinating to see local story through an outsider's eyes.

Maeve, I gave it a try, and got the same results. I will research those links. Thanks.

Melissa, I recently dicovered a song about the outlaw Sam Bass in John Lomax's book about Cowboy Songs. This one caught my attention because Sam Bass was killed here locally.
