Luton singing/clubs/sessions?

I have a wedding to attend in Luton on Sat, 3 March (2012).

Was wondering if there are any sessions/folk clubs/singarounds there (or nearby) that evening, or the evening before...

Thanks for any info!

There is a singaround at a small village pub just to the east of Luton on Saturday evenings (and most Tuesday evenings, which is when I go). It's in the Beds/Herts permathread (check there in case something comes up and it's cancelled).

The Plough, Plough Lane, Ley Green, Hitchin, SG4 8LA

Starts around 8:30 and goes on until everyone leaves, usually 12-12:30 on Tuesdays at least.

There is very little on in Luton itself on the Fri. or Sat. but if you're driving there are a couple of things on within 10-15 miles.

From the What's On in Herts/Beds, UK; Permathread   not all the links work and some info is outdated.

Fri. 02 Mar. (8-11pm)       Pumphouse Folk Club, Watford       Singers Night       £4
This link works

Here's something Breezy doesn't know about and whatever you do.... don't tell him!!       ;0)

Fri. 02 Mar. (8:30-we're kicked out)       Ashwell Arms, Leighton Buzzard       Murder/Mayhem       Free
Ashwell Session

I'll be at the Ashwell and depending on where you are in Luton I can possibly arrange a lift if you don't mind a late night.   PM me if you need any info.

Don't tell Breezy!!       ;0)

WW is right about The Plough at Ley Green on Saturday.   The natives are friendly, beer is excellent, wood-burning stove to warm your arse and the pub dog farts...   what more could you want???   It's in a tiny village behind Luton airport.   The last time I went on a Tuesday we fell out the door at 1:30am and as 'catter Buddhuu wrote in his report, on the Herts/Beds thread, it was an absolute feckin pleasure.

However Saturdays are a bit different. I haven't been but I do know Rick(Buddhuu) has had a few quiet ones, you can try to PM him and find out what goes on.   If you can't reach him contact me and I'll give him a call.

Hi John, I dont wish to know that !

Is Rick former 'Son of the soil' ?

just curious

I only play in Dun stable once a week

keep it all up

I think our Yankeetyke is only down for one evening

No Breezy...   Wrong Rick.   I haven't seen our former Son of the Soil for a while now but he only seems to play in Dunstable itself.... Globe/open mic's/Four Kings etc

Looks like I may not have much of a chance to get to anything on the Sat evening (depends on how late the wedding reception runs...).

Will have a car so that shouldn't be a limitation (JD, thanks for your very kind offer of a lift!); now all I have to do is decide which of the two Fri eve sessions to get to... (decisions, decisions!)

Thanks again to everyone!

Heigh-Ho YY   Buddhuu posted this on the Herts/Beds thread.....

Saturdays are gradually getting established now after a slow start, but still always plenty of room for more peeps.

All welcome. :-)

Cheers,

Rick

.....Hope it helps.

It's some distance away but there's a lunchtime session at the Hardwicke Arms, Arrington on Sunday. The website is as follows: unfortunately I don't know how to make it a blue clicky

Thanks for mentioning it, cptsnapper... but we're heading back to Sheffield Sat night, either after the wedding reception, or after the session at The Plough (if the reception ends early enough) which reminds me...

JD, do you think we'd be very out-of-place at The Plough if we just headed over straight from the wedding reception rather than taking the time & trouble to change out of our fancy wedding clothes?)

Also, am trying to decide between the two Fri eve sessions suggested; on the one hand, I particularly enjoy singing, so my impulse is to go for the Singers Night... but then again, it'd be nice to meet up with a fellow Catter (i.e., you!). Also, while my hubbie does enjoy folk music, his real love is real ale, so any info you can provide relating to the quality thereof -- at either/both establisment(s) will be factored in, as well...
