Old Songs Festival, 2012

The annual Old Songs Festival, near Albany, New York, USA isn't until the weekend of June 22-24, but there is going to be such a stellar staff this year that folks may want to come from a distance. Archie Fisher & John McCutcheon are just a couple of the performers. Motels in the area fill up quickly, for those of us who are too old or wimpy to want to camp. Duane D. & I will be there with Folk Legacy & will be staying at Days Inn on Western Avenue. The Best Western, next to the Days Inn is, also, popular with festival goers.Check the full line-up here .
Hope to see you there!

best,

Barbara

Then perhaps we won't either.

Why not?

Mosquitoes, arthritis, expense. It cost me just under a thousand dollars last year.We rented a motor home, and, as you know, gas prices are going up.

I'm not likely to allow a batch of expensive arthritic mosquitoes keep me away. I expect to be there as usual.

I camped until it got too difficult, now I stay in a hotel for a couple nights. Yes, it means I have to be able to drive back to the hotel and that means less staying up until all hours. BUT there's free breakfast, a comfortable bed, air conditioning and a luxurious shower, and those things are important in the ass-end of June!

I agree, Jeri. Toilets are kind of nice, too! ;) Good one, Charlie! Kendall, the Days Inn & Best Western are only about a 15 minute drive away & aren't too pricey. I hope you'll consider coming.

best,

Barbara

The fairground has toilets, but you may just have to walk a ways. The port-o-poopers in the campground are usually very well looked after and have hand-washing stations.

Heck, I still remember the old wooden outhouses at Fox Hollow. The graffiti was the best that was writ whilst taking a ...minute... but the stench started melting your brain after about 15 seconds.

The drive isn't bad as hardly anyone is on the road that late. (I saw a fox last year.) I don't know how the Days Inn is, but the Best Western's free breakfast is a real breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast and pancakes, cereal, fruit, bagels. And there's WiFi. You can really re-charge after a long, hard day at the music mines.

Kendall, think about how much you'll miss hanging out with Peter and your other pals, how much crap Jacqui won't be able to buy, and how much great music you'll miss. And we would miss YOU!!!

So,
Kendall,
COME TO THE DAMNED FESTIVAL!

Hard call. Now that we have the van, we can sleep quite comfortably on-premises. We bought it with this kind of thing in mind (as well as traveling to & from gigs with gear and partners). But the old crowd has gone their separate ways, to a great extent.

And it's never been quite the same since they spread out the camping.

I donno...

Days Inn doesn't have hot breakfast, but does have bagels, English Muffins, fruit, oatmeal, peanut butter, coffee, tea, milk, juice. I stayed at Best Western recently, just to check it out. It's a bit more expensive than Days Inn, I think, & the quality of the hot breakfast was a bit off (waffles don't cook through at the setting they use, fruit salad wasn't fresh, etc.). There are folks who prefer each place. Best Western has an indoor pool, if that counts.

Susan, glad to hear that you & Dick will be there!

The main problem is mosquitoes. Jacqui is severely allergic to them.

Hi Folks,

I'll be running the Folk Legacy booth, as usual. I expect we will be set-up in the usual location next to Ben and Jerry's, across from the Performer Sales and Used Instrument Sales. I expect to be bound to the tables and unable to attend the activities, so please stop by to visit. I expect to have a few copies of Kendall's, "Maine Lies Downeast." If you are really interested in getting a copy, please try to get one first from Kendall. I think he would appreciate the business. I also will have some copies of a special project I have been working on for Folk Legacy. I digitally remastered the Eugene Rhodes LP, FSA-10, "Talkin About My Time." It is one of the eleven Folk Legacy LPs never to make it to CD. This is the blues album recorded on location by Bruce Jackson, in 1962, while Eugene was incarcerated in Indiana State Prison. For the CD cover graphic, I found a copy of the LP in the basement of Folk Legacy in pristine condition and digitally imaged it. The finished product looks like a miniature version of the original album. I will also have some DVD copies of the Folk Legacy 50th Anniversary Concert at the Sounding Board in West Hartford, Connecticut, on October 29, 2011. If you bought a ticket to the concert, but were unable to attend due to the weather, request a copy. It's free. The Folk Legacy webpage has the concert available for free viewing in four segments and may be viewed Here.

I'm looking forward to seeing you.

Do have a great day,
Duane.

I got my tickets. I got my camping space. But I was unable to find any arthritic mosquitoes for purchase at any price, expensive or cheap, so I will have to do without them. (Anybody know any gerontological or rheumatoid-specialist entomologists? I thought not.)

Looking forward to visiting and to singing into the night. I even have a batch of neighbors from Silver Spring making the excursion to Altamont this year to keep me company.

Susan, are you bringing thirsts? I might glance at one...
Today is gather-up-the-gear-and-shop-for-provisions day! Up early, figure how to fit all our stuff in the Forester, reconnoiter with the caravan (our friends Alouette and Michael Iselin are coming with us again!), and off we go!

For those of you who didnt see me post it elsewhere, I'm so excited because besides seeing all you wonderful folks, long-time Mudcatter Black Walnut will be coming as well!

See you all soon!

I'm just planning to throw stuff in my car tomorrow and head out. It's been too hot here the last couple of days to think straight, let alone pack.
