Our good friend rob willis is coming over from australia for the festival, a link to his child migrants project can be found at

http://forgottenaustralianshistory.gov.au/oral_histories.html

rob is performing at the national folk festival in canberra this easter producing a folk documentary 'We Gotta Get out of this Place' looking at the popular songs of the era – Big Yellow Taxi, Peace Train – the American anti Vietnam war songs - asking the question were they seen as songs with a message or just a good song by Cat Stevens?

we look forward to welcoming him to the festival

all the best

Great youg musicians singers and dancers session sunday afternoon (oct 21st) last year around 30 young performers arrived with their music teacher peggy, and we were treated to a mass performance from the kilgarvan Céilidh band. They have been practising all year. It's one of the highlights of the weekend.

all the best john

Hope you all recovered from the invasion of flute players a week past Saturday, courtesy of Messrs Hamilton and O'Grada. I stayed in Ballyvourney myself, but heard that everyone really enjoyed both the music and hospitality. Best wishes for the festival.

Is he aware of the great significance of we gotta get out of this place to Vietnam veterans? I would approach this with great sensitivity and would consider another title after discussion with veterans..It was more than a message and more than a good song..it was an anthem and anthems have to be tread carefully around. mg

Great news, the McClintock clan have just confirmed they will be playing the festival. A young local band, blistering jigs reels hornpipes and slides, plus an eclectic mix of songs and close harmony. you will hear a lot more from them in the future.

All the best

Sad news, last night the top of coom was destroyed by fire. Thankfully the Creedon family are all Ok. We had many great music sessions up there, and it's a sad day for the local community.

Will not be adding any more posts to this thread.

Barr a' Choma - Top of Coom. How sad.

Hopefully 'twill soon rise from the ashes.

BTW, there's also a pub in the Dublin or Wicklow mountains that claims to be the highest pub in Ireland. Which is correct?
