Louis Killen - contact?

07 Apr 12 - 01:39 PM (#3335004)
Subject: Louis Killen - contact?
From: GUEST,Guest - crossing the water

I've heard that Louis is now living Tyneside, and I'll be visiting there for a few days in less than a week's time. I don't want to impose on him, but it would be nice to be able to just stop by and say hello, something I haven't managed since he was living near Seattle.

Anybody know how to contact him? I don't find any contact info on his web site, and the performance listing there doesn't seem to have been updated for more than a year. I hope he's OK.

Perhaps through the High Level Ranters' official website, since he's a member of that very fine group?

Sorry, a correction: I see he is not listed as a current member, but I'd still think that link would be useful.

"Louisa Jo Killen" on FaceBook?

That shows a picture of a woman (which is what I would have expected from the name). I'm looking for a man, traditional singer and concertina player.

If there's a relationship, I'm missing it. (If I have to join FaceBook to find out, I'm done. I'm not yet willing to do that.)

That's Louisa Jo Killen. She had pronoun reassignment, amongst other changes.

Louisa was never a member of the High Level Ranters.

Last I heard, she lived in a central Gateshead tower block. To send her a message on FB you don't need to be a member.

"To send her a message on FB you don't need to be a member."

Not being logged in, I see no means of sending a message. Am I overlooking something?

He must be approaching 80. and to judge from his website, which is seriously out of date, he seems to have been inactive for several years.

I share our guest's bewilderment at why he is being referred to Louisa Jo. I'm not aware of any connection between them, and if I was the guest I would find Jeri's explanation totally unhelpful.

The High Level Ranters website is also likely to be unhelpful - last updated 2004. But it might be worth trying to track down Johnny Handle who has certainly been performing fairly recently. If the details at that link are obsolete, try emailing Mike Kelly at the Sunday Sun who interviewed Johnny for the Newcastle Journal group a few months ago: mike[dot]kelly[at]ncjmedia.co.uk

Good luck.

Last I heard Louisa was not very good healthwise. A few years ago (he) was singing with Mike Waterson at selected concerts, but by Mike's funeral Louis was Louisa. Doc Rowe has his contact details and you can get a message to him on the Tradsong List. Last time I saw Louis as a fella about 3 years ago he was living in a tower block in Gateshead as someone has said. Whilst Louis was never a member of the Ranters Johnny would have his contact details. If you still want this if you PM me I can ask Pete Woods who would also know.

Sorry to screw up the html in my previous post - maybe a Joe Clone could tidy it up? And thanks Steve for explaining the (very direct) connection between the two names.

You can get in touch with me and I'll put you in touch with Louisa. John Roberts and I spent a few days with Louisa in Gateshead last year. Even with the health problems, she's doing quite well and we had a lovely visit.

She joined us for "Seamen's Hymn" when we were the guests at South Shields.

You can contact me through my website at www.DebraCowan.com. Too lazy to do a blue clicky.

Debra Cowan
OK, but my whole existence revolves around fixing HTML oopsies and making links. JC (Who hopes LJK sings in the US again soon.)

Louisa Jo and Louis are the same person. Simple as that. Deb seems the best bet for contacting her.

She also lists two email addresses for contact at FB, the one just, I think, the addition of an initial to her (his) former email address.

Guest, Lou is still Lou, despite the name (etc.) change. Details change, be flexible...life is an adventure.

Thanks to all for the help. I'll contact Deb.

It would be really great if I could see Lou again. There have also been many changes -- though of different sorts -- in my life since we last met. Lots of catching up to do, if she's up for it, but even a quick "hi" would be nice.

Louisa's fairly active on Facebook these days (compared to some others). I'll echo Dick's suggestion that you join up and message her on there :-)
