Unpublished book - Scottish Folk Revival

CELEBRATING ARTHUR ARGO
Hamish Henderson, Norman Buchan and Morris Blythman were the Big Three who brought the Scottish Folk Revival into life. Then they were joined by Arthur Argo. He started the Aberdeen Folk Club, created and ran massively influential Chapbook magazine, wrote some tremendous newspaper articles and made crucial BBC radio programmes and recordings. Arthur, the great grandson of Gavin Greig, helped preserve and celebrate his predecessor's work through his own singing and his nurturing of young performers through the booking agency he ran [unpaid!].
Sheila Douglas researched deeply and interviewed widely to write a biography of Arthur, but has been unable to get it published. I have now been permitted by Sheila, Colin and Gavin to make her work available on the website www.sheiladouglas.webs.com where you will find I have split her account in two. One covers most of Arthur's life and work, but I have separated on the website her chapter on Chapbook, in which she details, discusses and comments more deeply on various Chapbook articles and on her own involvement in the Revival.
I have not sought to update Sheila's text.
I recommend Sheila's work to you.

Interesting - look forward to looking at it.... meanwhile, there was a very annoying pop up on the page which was impossible to eliminate. Had to turn the PC off and on again....

I'm glad to see this, Ewan. I'm looking forward to having time to read it carefully.

Derek, I saw no pop-up, so can't be helpful in that regard; sorry.

I will certainly read it. Sheila is a very old friend and I met Arthur on a couple of occasions.
No pop up for me either.

Too late, as usual! All I found was a note that Ewan has had to take the ms off the site at the request of Arthur Argo's family "until some editorial improvements can be made". I'd have loved to read this.

Ewan, is there any chance of those editorial improvements being done in the near future? I'm sorry to hear Sheila Douglas is unwell. So she probably won't be able to do it herself, but perhaps plans are being made?

A bit ordinary and in rather silly mid-Atlantic accents (or rather, their sentences tend to start in middle-class southern England and try to reach America with as much success as the Titanic).

Good instrumental playing though.
