I think we should get a mob together and go up there and fix em up right. Alright, lads, who's wid me? Lads? Um, lads?? Saul |
24 Apr 12 - 04:15 PM (#3342735) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: gnu "... fix em right." Don't mess with tough, good people. |
24 Apr 12 - 07:48 PM (#3342830) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: kendall The Maine turnpike is littered with the bones of sharp operators who came here thinking they could snooker the rustics. Look up The Brady gang. Damn fools thought they could just walk into a gun store and buy machine gun bullets! I thought it was interesting that of the 5 most peaceful states, three of them are in New England. By the way, Vermont has no concealed law. |

25 Apr 12 - 08:21 AM (#3343000) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: Charley Noble Maine also has fewer law enforcement personnel per capita than other states. So maybe there's a lot more crime happening here that's not being reported. I've been wondering about our apparent lack of crime these last few years. I still think it was a major crime that our current governor was elected. The idiots who voted for him should really be charged with something, or at least have their heads examined. So it goes! 25 Apr 12 - 01:56 PM (#3343175) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: gnu Thread drift... I've been to Maine a number of times and always enjoyed the friendly people, the slooow pace, the beautiful scenery both along the coast and through farm country, the old architecture... but, the sense of community shines through most. Ya don't have to leave here to see because we get MPBN TV here. I try not to miss shows from Maine, about Maine. Atlantic Canada also shares something else with our neighbours to the south, all the way to New York and, some, further. Our friends and relatives who went to live and work there. It's our natural trading route. Never really made sense to trade over the Appalachians, except that the border made our railroads and roads go east-west. |

Anyways, it is obviously not the best place for my line of work, which is fightin' crime...specially real violent crime. I figger if a case don't include at least one stiff from the getgo, it is hardly worth takin' on. I need the excitement factor. It motivates me to work a lot harder. 28 Apr 12 - 12:07 PM (#3344456) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: Little Hawk Well...except have sex, that is. The two activities are often linked, I hear. And that accounts for the fact that the population of Blind River has not dwindled to zero, but is in fact growing. |

28 Apr 12 - 12:22 PM (#3344464) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: Ed T Could the actual reason be historic? That being, because Maine was technically part of Canada for a short time after the British "took it over" in the war of 1814 -(but gave it back later, because it was just too peaceful). :) ""Nova Scotia Lieutenant-Governor Sir John SHERBROOKE led a force from Halifax into Maine, capturing Castine on 1 September. By mid-month British forces held much of the Maine coast, which was returned to the US only with the signing of the peace treaty"" Source, Canadian Encylopedia |
28 Apr 12 - 12:26 PM (#3344466) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: Ed T ""because it was just too peaceful"" I should have stated, "possibly" because it was just too peaceful. 28 Apr 12 - 12:27 PM (#3344467) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: SINSULL Made me laugh, Captain. Maine was also technically part of Massachussetts for a while. Go figure. |

28 Apr 12 - 01:11 PM (#3344490) Subject: RE: BS: Maine Most Peaceful State From: gnu Ed T... I was told by a history buff many years ago that the Brits who negotiated the treaty "agreed to" the wrong river because they didn't know the geography and couldn't read their own maps.
