Dave Hill of Sussex

I'm putting up the link to this Youtube video in the hope that people who know DAVE HILL of Sussex, fiddle and melodeon player and good all round bloke can spare him a few thoughts and good wishes. Dave have been in a coma since falling down the stairs over a month ago, though there have been a few minor good signs of late.
Dave has been a stalwart supporter of English tunes sessions and folk clubs in the Lewes area for many years now. Here, in the company of Will Duke, he plays a step-dance tune in a lovely old-fashioned laid-back manner. This was videoed by Ray Whiteway Roberts,

Valmai is the one co-ordinating the progress updates, so hopefully, she will pop up here with the latest news.

Thanks for letting people here know about Dave Hill, Vic. I also get regular updates on Dave's plight from Valmai, and I'm sure there must be others out there who would like to be kept in touch.

Please extend my best wishes to Dave for a full recovery. Never met him and never will most likely, but if the quality of his friends is anything to go by, he's a good man.

There isn't really much more to report, I'm afraid. Dave is still in a coma and unable to have visitors, but has been moved into a main ward. About a week ago he did respond to an instruction to raise a leg, but there has been nothing further since then. There are plans to insert a longer-term tube for feeding instead of the short-term one which goes up the nose and down the throat.

Meanwhile we keep playing his favourite tunes and hoping for better news.

Thanks for the update Valmai ,very sorry Dave is not responding.
I wonder if we set up a band in the ward it might get him to join in with his fiddle.

They have been playing recordings of local sessions to him on headphones, but he hasn't responded yet.

Dave has been transferred to

Lindfield Ward,
Princess Royal Hospital,
Lewes Road,
Haywards Heath RH16 4EX.

He is still unconscious and unable to have visitors apart from family. There was a slight improvement ten days ago when he responded to a request to raise a leg, but we don't know if this has been repeated and have not heard of any further progress.

An update from Valmai - dated last Thursday

Dave is still in the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. He has been transferred to the heart ward to deal with a heart rhythm problem and visiting is still restricted to family only. Apart from this there is no change in his condition.
