Review: Brave - the film score

I decided to treat myself to a fun movie - and the air conditioning was another plus. :)

The score by Patrick Doyle was delightful and Pixar did their usual fine job of animation. I really wish the film credits were slower, I just can't read them as fast as they go so I missed most of the names of the fine performers - except for the London S O. And the script was far better than I expected.

The feel of the film was more Tolkien than Hans Christian Anderson, which is another plus in my book. I'll look for the film score cd when it comes out.

This was discussed a wee while back on the "Chiff & Fipple" website - see above, if the link works.

2 Scottish traditional musicians were involved - Julie Fowlis with 2 songs, and also Matheu Watson on "Celtic" [!! ] whistle.

Hi sciencegeek, I have the same problem, so when I get home from seeing a movie, I usually end up checking the IMDB (International Movie DataBase) website (http://www.imdb.com/) to catch the info I missed.

Here are the full cast & crew credits for "Brave" and here is the soundtrack listing/credits.

Haven't seen it yet, but I want to...

The soundtrack CD is already available. It's been in my CD player since Monday.

A recent graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Scottish Music degree course -- Lorne MacDougall -- got the gig of working with Patrick Doyle to provide the bagpipe input. (Lorne is a previous winner of the Scottish Young Traditional Musician of the year award.)

Postings on FB last week indicated that it was a most enjoyable and cooperative venture!

I'm waiting impatiently for the film's release here on 3rd August.....

That's Martin Freeman, whose involvement in the interminable saga of how just much more money they can screw out of Tolkien fans ever-expanding poetic vision of Peter Jackson is holding up the making of the 3rd series of Sherlock.

Julie Fowlis will be on the Mike Harding show on BBC Radio 2 fairly soon, and no doubt other publicity gigs.

There's definitely a traditional music enthusiast working in the Disney soundtrack department these days, seeing as how Cara Dillon is the voice of Disney's Tinkerbell ...
