24 Jul 12 - 03:33 PM (#3380960) Subject: Lyr Req: Chris Wood, 'The enclosures came' From: GUEST,Joe I just heard Chris Wood and Andy Cutting doing their thing at a festival. One song which was particularly moving was about the enclosures. I'd love to know what it was. I vaguely remember something about animals squeezing through hedges and the following line: E G G , E G G , G G E D C C While ____, and ____, and ____ remain Another line ends: ... the enclosures came That's all I can remember. Can anyone help me identify the song? Google isn't being very helpful. Then again I'm not either, I can't remember much at all about the song. Thanks! Joe |

Clare spent many years in a lunatic asylum because he was seen by the powers that be as being Mad and against the Rule of Law, particularly about The Enclose Acts. The play is very very powerful. It's highly likely that the song's on it. However I'm afraid the song I'm after wasn't Mad John. I suppose I could buy the CD and just find out, but I'd rather know first. |

The lyric is from the poem by John Clare called, The Moors. Cheers, Chris Needless to say, I replied with an encouragement to record it! |
