But I do think that there's something essential absent in a heart that doesn't care the slightest about music. Even if you can't make music, at least to feel something for it or as a result of it at indicates a living, beating heart, instead of a lump of coal. I know a couple of the latter. One of the reasons that I become almost evangelical (in an agnostic way) with my students who show an interest in tradish music, is that the many new doors that will open for them lead to the most interesting and caring "group" I know.
