BS: mudcatters excluded

The man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved by concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, strategems and spoils; The motions of his spirit are as dull as Erebus: Let no such man be trusted. Merchant of Venice

Sure, Kendall, good quote, but the love of music is no guarantee against "treasons, strategems and spoils". I wish it were so. The world would be a lot better off!

And, whaddya mean, no Mudcatters in this BS thread?!!!**BG**

Well, Kat, I agree that love of music is no guarantee that you aren't a scoundrel. But I do think that there's something essential absent in a heart that doesn't care the slightest about music. Even if you can't make music, at least to feel something for it or as a result of it at indicates a living, beating heart, instead of a lump of coal. I know a couple of the latter. Sad folks, the lot.

Kendall - great quote. We can only hope it's true that mudcatters are truly excluded from such an un-fun group.

What I meant was, the love of music is what excludes us from that group, and, I believe that among our group, you will find fewer scoundrels than in the general population.

I would like to believe that one who is a maker of music or one who is an active listener cannot possibly be a Grinch. But the reality is that there are, indeed, Grinches among us. The trick is not in the wand; but in the magician. We all will, for as long as we walk this Earth, have the option of good or evil no matter what our musical bent may be.

And Vaughan Williams set it sublimely to music in "Serenade to Music". Go and listen.

Kendall, I couldn't agree with you more. One of the reasons that I become almost evangelical (in an agnostic way) with my students who show an interest in tradish music, is that the many new doors that will open for them lead to the most interesting and caring "group" I know.

So Rick, how many of our members did you baptize, anyway? I know about Neo, of course (but the beer you poured on 'Spaw's head doesn't count)(the beer that FADAC spilled in my lap, however, is another story--but that's another story).

Then, of course, are those of us who are scoundrels BECAUSE of our love of music. For who cannot say in the silence of their soul that they have not wished to sway others with enchanting melody? Then there are those who are "insane" because of our love of music. Who has not heard: "What? No fame or fortune? Why do it then?" Ah, but isn't it wonderful to be an insane scoundrel?

"The trick is not in the wand; but in the magician..."

Oooh, Allan C., that's a wonderful quote. I'm printing that one out and putting it on my refrigerator/collage.

So twoo, so twoooo...

WW, "The trick is not in the wand; but in the magician..." was, as I understand it, coined by a man who was defending his shortcomings...

Sort of like, "It's not how long you make it, it's how you make it long...?"
