BS: Cats on Vancouver Island

Decided I coukldn't say no to an invitation to visit friends who live near vcitoria on Vancouver Island the last week in October / first week in November. Is there anything going on I shouldn't miss? songs or storytelling? suggestions from anyone around as to what I should go and see apart from the obvious. I have been once before and went up to Tofino but this time will probably stay nearer to Victoria although I do have a car

Cats - why did you prefix this as BS? - seems like a folk-related thread to me!

Have a great time, anyway!

There's a catter called Jim something, can't remember his name exactly, but he's an expat Scot, and he came to one of my early October gatherings. He easily won the prize for furthest travelled attendee at the event.

The Victoria Folk Music Society has music every Sunday evening.

Be sure to drive out to the Outer Wharf, James Bay neighborhood, to the jetty and watch the sunset.

Alert Bay (access by short ferry trip from Campbell River) has a fine First Nations settlement and excellent museum. Fabulous totem poles too.

Cathedral Grove, on the road to Tofino, has fantastic, huge Douglas Firs. Close by is the town of Coombs, with the renowned 'Goats On The Roof' store and cafe. Some nice stuff in the food store.

The gardens in Victoria, although I don't know how they'll be at this time of year - it was June when I was there.

We spent a few days on the island seven years ago. There were no goats on the roof at Coombs, and we understood there hadn't been for awhile. Anyone know if they're back?

We really enjoyed Bamfield, Tofino, Schooner Trail thru the rainforest...I found Wickannish Beach just stunning, could spend any amount of time there with a camera.

Craigdarroch Castle is worth the walk from downtown. Lots of history just sitting around waiting to be looked at.

You write that you have a car. Think about visiting Pacific Rim National Park/Long Beach. Oct/Nov may be a bit late for camping, but the beach hiking at low tide is fabulous.

We enjoyed Zip lining near Victoria last year at this location:
Ziplining

We also enjoyed the tranquility of the Hatley Gardens and a walking tour of Royal Rhodes University near Victoria.

Oh!

When I first saw this thread title, I assumed it was about an infestation of feral cats on Vancouver Island!

Sorry! Wrong end of the stick. . . .

Roger, I saw and heard Dave Harris in the Inner Harbour, Victoria in June, and very good he was too. A nice musical accompaniment to a very enjoyable al-fresco dinner!
