The format includes a booked guest spot of 50minutes with the rest of the evening taken up with floor spots from around the room. 08 Oct 12 - 11:07 AM (#3416370) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,windstringer Wow - 3 hours of live folk music broadcast each week? Do they play cd tracks as well? |
08 Oct 12 - 04:24 PM (#3416548) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,spoonerman This is a new version of the former Wayland Radio folk show. It's been popular with Suffolk performers so far too. Recent visitors have included Silbury Hill, John Goodluck and his Bards, The Tilly Dalgleish Band, Lou Allen and Mc2 from around these parts. Go and play there - you never know who may be listening in to you as it all gets streamed live over internet radio. They'll play a few tracks from your cd's as well if you ask nicely. |
08 Oct 12 - 06:55 PM (#3416653) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,pete from seven stars link i dont live your way but we have friends in dereham.sometimes we stay there.is it folk in the broad acoustic sense? |
08 Oct 12 - 07:39 PM (#3416675) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,spoonerman Yes - absolutely. Dave and Jane, the presenters have put a lot of work into this venture and have welcomed all acoustic singers and players including singer/songwriters, blues, accapella, traditional British folk and the odd American performer. I would urge all players and singers to go along and give it a try with a floor spot or two and bring your friends. Like all folk clubs, variety is the key to a good night and an enthusiastic audience makes a huge difference to the atmosphere. If you have enough material then email the presenters and ask for a featured guest slot. Guest are not paid but the chance to be heard over the internet and be recorded is an opportunity not to be missed. |
08 Oct 12 - 08:12 PM (#3416698) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,thumper i play ragtime tunes - would they let me play my electric piano? |
09 Oct 12 - 05:19 AM (#3416808) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,squeezankeys Probably - but no need. There's an upright acoustic piano in the club room, ready to roll. You wouldn't be the first ragtime player at the club. Go for it! |
09 Oct 12 - 09:15 AM (#3416895) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,Peter from Mc2 Good to see this great venue getting a mention on Mudcat. It's quite a journey for me from Suffolk, but I've played there several times now and have always been made to feel welcome. Presenters, Jane and Dave have both put a lot of effort into launching the club and deserve more support from local players and singers. Where else can you just turn up, play any kind of acoustic music to a friendly audience AND be heard over internet radio anywhere in the world? Admission is free, It's friendly, fun and next to a good real ale pub. It just needs regular visitors now. |
09 Oct 12 - 09:37 AM (#3416905) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,Eliza Good gracious, it's just up the road! My Doctor's surgery is in North Elmham. Thank you for the info, very interesting indeed. |

10 Oct 12 - 03:59 PM (#3417668) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,Scott Dolling - Silbury Hill We played there on Sunday and the team were very accommodating, especially as our set moved away from traditional folk into some proggy moments. We enjoyed the night and the beer in the pub next door!! My wife listened for an hour and enjoyed the show - she's not that folky minded but even so was impressed with what was going on in deepest, darkest Norfolk. |
11 Oct 12 - 08:26 AM (#3418031) Subject: RE: Folk Club North Elmham Norfolk From: GUEST,Peter from Mc2 Actually Wyndylad, Paul McCartney has played at the folk club TWICE this year! He may not be the one you were thinking of though. The man in question is Paul McCartney, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist of Suffolk's own 'Mc2' and writer of such gems as 'The Landlords Song', 'Julia' and 'Apple Trees' amongst others. He may not be as rich our famous as his titled namesake but he does write some great songs! |
