Origins: You'll do better up in the mountains

During our stay here in the beautiful southern Appalachians, a song from my childhood keeps ringing through my head. When I lived in Colorado, my mother would sing this every time we drove to the Rockies:

You'll do better up in the mountains,
You'll do better up in the mountains,
You'll do better up in the mountains,
As we have done before!

The tune was very close to the children's game, "Go in and out the window", though not identical. It seems to me there was a second verse. My Google-fu is failing me here. Does anyone know the origins of this song???

I see several references to a song called "I do better up in the mountains"? Any chance?

Regards

Wow- that might be it! On my ipad I can't access some of the sites I found searching for "I Do Better Up In The Mountains         Stept, Sam H.         Broadway Music Corp.         1950" so when I leave the mountains (southern Appalachians) next week and return home next week I will check it out.

The British Library has the sheet music, and gives a longer title:

I DO BETTER UP IN THE MOUNTAINS (THAN I DO DOWN BY THE SEA)
by Sam H Stept, 1950.
