I wanted to look up the words of a song I made for one of the Song Challenge threads a few years ago, so I clicked on the link for Áine's Mudcat Songbook, and found to my horror it's not there any more.

I'm hoping someone somewhere has downloaded a copy of it, and that something can be done to put it up. The Song Challenges were a great part of the Mudcat story, and there were a lot of great songs in there. Well there still are, since if you put Song Challenge in the filter box just above the threads and set it for All you get links to the Song Challenges going back to the start of the century. But chasing up the songs that way is a much more laborious process, though great fun.

Come back Áine, we miss you...p

geocities is gone, but some nice person rescued lots of geocities pages and made them available at reocities.com

I've copied most of the songs onto the PermaThread, but I admit the job got teejus after a while and I got distracted by other projects. I stopped at the beginning of "Songs of Inspiration." Guess I'd better get back to work.

Glad to see it's still there. I'd tried getting to it via the Quick Links, which sends you to the old address, which doesn't work.

It would be a good idea to fix that.

On a PC, this clever program will copy a website for you, using parameters YOU set. They have instructions, examples and forums to explain it all. It is not very hard to do (why, even I have used it several times!) It will ignore stuff you don't want and go to as many levels as you choose. Obviously, you'd want to take care not to try to download some 10 terabyte site totally....

Thanks, that sounds useful. I only wish I'd had a program like that a little bit back, before a website full of my songs vanished when someone switched something off somewhere.

I should have known better than to trust a free website provider - lycos in this case.

Use the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org. I found the song "001" by Amos back in 2008.

You don't need the wayback - the Mudcat filter works perfectly for finding Los threads.
