And let's not forget John Thompson's impressive follow-up Australian Folk Song a Day blog.

Maybe Reinhard can give us a rough estimate of how many songs Martin Carthy has recorded, between his solo recordings, collaborations with Dave Swarbrick and as a member of Steeleye Span, The Albion Country Band, The Watersons, Blue Murder, and such. He must easily have passed 1000.

I think Pete Seeger has recorded pretty nearly every song ever written.

Ray's work is good IMO because he doesn't circumscribe "folk song" too tightly. He could go on indefinitely, and has.

As long as we're on tangents...I am working on doing every chantey known to have existed (and for which there is sufficient information to make a rendition). Over 500 so far.
