So far I have

Jagger Folk
Norman Brooks
Les Elvin
Tone Deaf Leopard
Clive Lever
Myself

As three of the above can only make it on the Sunday, this seems to be drifting into open mic rather than singaround.

It is possible that the marquee in the garden may be available for singaround use, and I will be updating that later.

I have commented elsewhere on this forum that I have not seen much publicity for this event nor, more surprisingly, has it received as many postings as previous similar events.
Are Mudcatter's going? If so, why not a few more mentions to keep this thread alive and active.
I will be there Saturday afternoon. The bus stops outside so no need to drive and what better way to enjoy the good beers on offer than by singing along with the Hartley Morris Men plus Phil Burkin. A session not to be missed.

Sheep!
Nobody mentioned sheep earlier, or I would not have agreed to go shantying on 29th.
That means all the pretty ones will have gone before I get there :-(

Easter is always a busy time for us - and its a bit cold to camp. Its a great site - a weekend later on in the season would be good.

We're stuck with what the weather gives us, but the weekend will go ahead as advertised unless the roads are impassable, which doesn't seem likely.

We already decided not to camp as our van has no heating.
The temperature outside at present is definitely not to our liking.
We can drive to the pub in about half an hour, so we will come provided there's no more snow.

Hi all
The 'Around Kent Folk' mag, has advertised a Folk and Ale weekend, at the Good Intent, which would clash with this event. This is not the case, there is nothing planned at the GI over the weekend. So, rather than being disapointed, why not support the Vigo.

6.15pm Thursday, and I'm heading off to the Vigo.

I have a borrowed laptop, so will hopefully be able to check in, in the mornings.

There are lots of open mic spots still up for grabs, and lots of good acts to listen to.

Don
I note from your Saturday afternoon timetable a variance from what was previously agreed with times now shown as T.B.C. until 6pm.
The Hartley Morris performance had been confirmed as the entire 1pm - 4pm slot consisting of Dancing 1 - 1.30,lunch & singing until 3ish followed by another dance then a solo spot by Phil Burkin until 4pm.
Neither Phil nor most of our members can stay much beyond 4pm and we sing together as an entity thus needing the full period between dancing if all our singers are to get at least couple of songs each.
I don't want to upset your other performers nor the audience but I have 12 men coming expecting to perform together between 1-4pm as originally agreed.

Well done, Don.
We really enjoyed our gig on Saturday night, and the Monday afternoon gig with Larkspur and Border Crossing was great. And an intimate survivors' singaround to finish it off! Smashing!

I'm just about awake again and still buzzing with the marvellous responses.

I salute all those who came to sing, play, or listen, as well as the sterling performances from our evening headliners.

I went from nail biting jitters an ahour before the start, to pure delight. Thanks to you all there was not a single unused time slot in the four days and we ran to time or within thirty minutes in a day for the whole festival.

I got a lot of praise over the weekend, much of which truly belongs to all of you.

This morning I have a throat like sandpaper, but I still can't get the smile off my face.

My grateful thanks
Don T.

Don

Just a big thank you from Dean and myself re Monday afternoon, what a great time we had, it is such a fantastic place to play and the audience were also fantastic. One of the highlights for me was hearing Andy play Boogie Woogie, maybe Border Crossing should start incorporating this into our set (the mind boggles).

So once again Don many thanks for inviting us to play, and look forward to the next one in August.

PS Hopefully this will get as famous as the GI for the place to play in time.

Cheers

John

It may surprise you to hear that not all the punters were happy. I expect you can work out who I'm talking about. They didn't like the jazz or the booogie woogie, it was too cold, too dark, etc. etc. etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with Kevin as the playing was excellent, and as there was only a few of us at the singaround it was good to hear different genres of music. As i was the person who requested Andy play some Boogie Woogie,i was dead chuffed when he did.

As the saying goes somebody's meat is another man's poison.

Cheers

....And now I know it's possible to play Boogie Woogie on a recorder. :) I was dead chuffed about that too.

""It may surprise you to hear that not all the punters were happy.""

We had a solid dose of the All Day Moaner too. I think she's only happy when she's miserable.

I gave an audience of people who are only just starting to enjoy folk as strong a cross section of acoustic music as I could, and it worked.

As they get to see more of what Folk is about in the hands of people like the Hot Rats and Larkspur, the balance will slide more to the Folk end of the spectrum. Both had them dancing their legs off.

I believe that is better than stuffing them full of what they aren't used to, and expecting them to swallow.

This was the third festival and the proportion of folk in the headline acts was 50%.

The future will follow the feedback of the majority, but Jazz and Blues will still feature, because they are popular at this venue.

Well, Hartley Morris Men had a good time and hope that our audience appreciated what we're about. Nothing special, we just dance and sing (and drink) a bit like old folkies used to, but that's probably because that's what we are. Mind you we did like the poems.
Thanks to Don for organising it and Andy for his hospitality.

Well, nobody could ever say that Hartley Morris aren' folky, and yes, the audience were talking about the range of voices and songs.

You guys were much appreciated, and I hope we've started a regular interaction between Hartley and the Vigo.

I must retract the boogie woogie bit, as I realised that was on Monday, and she wasn't there. Don, you are quite right to cater for the audience, give them what they want, (a little bit, anyway), and introduce them to something "new."
