BS: April is a bad month

Subject: BS: April is a bad month
From: kendall

Bad things happen in April:
April 20 Hitler was born
April 15 Titanic sank
April 12 FDR died
April 1861 Civil war broke out.
APRIL 15, Lincoln assassinated
The only thing I remember was the death of FDR. I was listening to the radio when it was announced, and I remember thinking, does this mean the end of our democratic form of government?

what else happened?

Well, my adored and still much mourned first wife Valerie was born. Today would in fact have been her 78th birthday. Whether that is good because of the wonderful half-century we had together or not because she is dead, I am not quite sure. And I am indeed blessed in having been rescued by my dearest present wife Emma.

Well, TS Elliot would agree with you -

"APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land..."

But Chaucer wouldn't.

Columbine, Waco, and the Oklahoma City bombing. And, though the Newtown shooting was in December, Adam Lanza was born on April 22.

Spring tiptoes into the Ottawa Valley in April! Every damned year, even this one!

The one fact outweighs a lot of bad.

Well ... with all the negativity presented here regarding the month of April I present some of my own personal positives and high points regarding this month

my late father was born in this month. The finest human I have ever known.

my son was born in April. A son I am very proud of.

my son's youngest son was born in April. A little gem he is.

On April 3rd 1972 I married a wonderful, beautiful and a very special woman

I am very fortunate to have had and have these people in my life ... they have kept me in a positive direction, even when the all the world's negativity attempts to weigh upon my shoulders.

A big thanks from me to the month of April.

now kids ... go and pick another month, or months ... I'm sure you'll find all the negativity you want ... and more.

Last night the Minnesota Twins had to wait for the grounds crew to scrape the snow off the ball field before they could play. What further evidence do we need?

Of course there are good things that happened in April, David Mallet was born on April 21.
BY the by, I was born in May.

I very definitely remember that on April 18, 1955 Albert Einstein died. (I was reading one of his books when the first announcement I heard came on the radio.)

And in the US April 15 has been the last date for filing Income Tax returns since about the same year the Titanic played with the iceberg.

I was 9 years old when FDR died; I remember the grade school principal announced it in the lunch room and requested that everyone stand for a moment of silence. I was very impressed; it was a little scary because of the somberness of all the adults. But I don't remember wondering about our democratic form of government. Kendall, you were evidently wise for your years.

Is it just a coincidence that Lincoln was assassinated, the Titanic sank, and Kim Il Sung's birthday are ALL on April 15?

I don't think so! What are they hiding and who are they? Kendall started this thread -- does HE know?

Just this week, in Germantown, Maryland, an Army Recruiter killed one of his recruits, then himself, in Christianburg, Virginia, in Texas, a college student walked in to his school and started ran amok, stabbing people, and there seem to bave been two more random shootings that I can even get sort from the others. You can be dismissive if you want, Rapparee, but, for whatever reason, April seems to bring out the worst in some people.

Not that we are running anything particularly good around here. All the fucked up armchair theology and campfire philosophy along with the worthless and endless political arguments is enough to give you a case of the shits. Lately I notice the thing we are most successful at is pissing each other off. I love ya' Kendall. Give us some of the old Kendall huh?

I'm gonna' go play Scrabble and Words with Friends for awhile. Try it......very relaxing.

Not that we are running anything particularly good? This is supposed to be a music site.

Recently I posted a MIDI for "The Appletree" because someone asked for it. Apparently nobody has ever played it or even listened to it.

Joe Offer just posted abc's for the lovely Mudgee Waltz from Australia. Apparently I'm the only person who has ever played it or said thanks.

I posted a MIDI for a nice piece for the Easter season from 'Christian Harmony.' Apparently nobody ever played it or even listened to it.

If you want a better experience at the Mudcat, Spaw, respond to the music and encourage the people who are working at sharing it.

Ya know what, Stim? If you want to start some stupid argument go elsewhere.

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm' aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke's,
My cousin's, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

Or if you prefer:

Whan that aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of march hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
Tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the ram his halve cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(so priketh hem nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages,
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes,
To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
And specially from every shires ende
Of engelond to caunterbury they wende,
The hooly blisful martir for to seke,
That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke.
Bifil that in that seson on a day,
In southwerk at the tabard as I lay
Redy to wenden on my pilgrymage
To caunterbury with ful devout corage,
At nyght was come into that hostelrye
Wel nyne and twenty in a compaignye,
Of sondry folk, by aventure yfalle
In felaweshipe, and pilgrimes were they alle,
That toward caunterbury wolden ryde.

April is a bad month this year here in Calgary.
Icy snow still on the lawns, ground frozen, and it's snowing today.

Thanks for the quotations, Raparree.

I won't comment on the other stuff written here, but I sympathize with some of his remarks.

Spaw. OK. I'm glad you were just referring to the BS section.

For us, this spring was a real rollercoaster. December and January were mild, then we were hit by a series of snowstorms which attacted national attention, they were so bad. One day in late March, it was 83 on a Thursday (a record) and it was trying to snow the next Tuesday.

However, things are looking up. The taxes are done and my snow peas are coming up. My tomato seedlings are growing under fluorescent lights, and as long as that doesn't attract the attention of the DEA, we'll be all right.
