14 May 13 - 02:36 AM (#3514863) Subject: requests for sing along songs From: open mike I have been singing folky songs for many years. I have been asked to sing more sing along type songs from a venue where I will perform soon. The venue is sort of a biker's bar and I think they are thinking of top 40 songs from the 1960's when they say "sing along" I find songs from the 1860's more interesting, actually! Does anyone out there have any suggestions about songs that might fit that profile? I have added Grateful Dead, Eagles, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Jerry Jeff Walker, Crosby Stills Nash and Young , John Denver and John Prine songs to my usual list....any suggestions? |

I sang "This Land Is Your Land," and the whole darn audience sang along. I like your list of additional songsters - can you give us a list of the actual songs? The one that leaps to mind--though I've already OD'd on it--is "Na Na, Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye". Sounds about right for a biker bar. "Country Roads" is another which is at least approaching that status. I imagine you just have to think of the ones you yourself are thoroughly tired of and they may well fit the bill. Even "Sloop John B" may be OK--though that's still a good song. |

So the question is what songs people who frequent a biker bar-type venue in the US would sing along with. I'd sure sing along with Kinks songs but then I don't spend much time in that sort of place. But if you do Kinks songs I'd think a good choice would be "All Day And All Of The NIght". Aside from Kinks, another possible suggestion: Honky Tonk Woman (which is also still a good song despite lots of exposure.) I'd think that what you want is something raucous and loud-- where enthusiasm is as least as important as hitting notes. Some others: We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, House of the Rising Sun, Glad All Over. All still good songs. Problem: it might be a challenge for one person to convincingly lead most of these--you really need a band. |

Copperhead Road, Justice in Ontario (just be aware of what backpatch clubs are there before you roll that one out!), This Highways Mine (Roadmaster). One that I play at biker type places and that always goes down well is in the link. Just get a bit of hush by telling them what it is! Great song about a dispatch rider in WWII.
