Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find the tune 'Roslin Castle', which Old Blind Dogs have recorded on their 'The World's Ruin' album on Green Linnet Records?

Thanks

There are two songs to the tune in 'The Scots Musical Museum'. For earlier copies of the tune see the Scots tune index on my website (www.erols.com/olsonw). Said to have been a favorite funeral march in the U.S. in the 1st half of the 19th century, according to a book on American Martial music that I once saw.

James Oswald published the tune more than once, and after he died his relatives claimed that he composed it. However he did not claim it in any publication, and the claim has been discounted by music historians. The first song in SMM commences "Twas in that season of the year' and appeared soon after the tune did, and just might be the origianl song for the tune. [But it's nothing like a folk song.]
