John Meredith, in his notes to his recordings of the Blackman family calls the tune that he recorded as 1) Mudgee Waltz/Oh, How I float in my Golden Boat. Does any-one know anything about such a tune and where it may have come from. I recall once being told that the tune was originally Scandinavian but I can't recall anything more than that |

In some of my posts to these I have mentioned that Mudgee seems to have hung on to a number of (~) German families who probably settled there after the Gold Rush era. Obviously, that ought to have also included some of their former neighbours ... including various people of 'Scandinavian' origins ... and it's just as likely that something from any of those European cultures could have been taken up in local musical traditions. Incidentally, I tried to follow up the "Oh, How I float in my Golden Boat" line in web searches ... but to no avail. It may well be that I'm asking the question in the wrong language. (I didn't get to study German, back in High School ([mumbledy mumble decades back ...] as I was the only one selecting that option ... so Herr Bode was School Librarian for my High School years ... instead of German Master!)
