26 Jun 13 - 12:53 PM (#3530624) Subject: Review: Silent Songs From: Fergie Hi all, A radio program about traditional singing and song collecting based upon my journey from being a folk-singer to being a collector of songs from old printed sources was broadcast a few weeks ago. For anybody interested you will find a podcast here Silent Songs. Some feedback would be appreciated Fergus |

26 Jun 13 - 07:20 PM (#3530759) Subject: RE: Review: Silent Songs From: MartinRyan Great work, Fergus! Apart from Fergie, the program also features 'catters Liberty Boy and John Moulden and provides an excellent insight into the current state of traditional singing in Ireland. A quiet listen to it, with the mouth taped over and the hands kept away from keyboards and touchscreens, would do some other 'catters a power of good! Regards |

27 Jun 13 - 04:55 AM (#3530838) Subject: RE: Review: "Silent Songs" Radio Program From: Jack Campin I liked it but got a bit lost at times. It would have been better split into smaller chunks, each with a single focus. As it was, you didn't quite know where it was going next. John Moulden was terrific - stuck to making a single point very clearly. |
27 Jun 13 - 05:10 AM (#3530842) Subject: RE: Review: "Silent Songs" Radio Program From: MartinRyan Jack I'd agree there was a bit of a "drunkard's walk" feel about the direction at times (No offence, Fergie!) but reckon it also threw a little light on some rarely explored corners of the tradition in Ireland. Regards |

I think I'm used to BBC progs where they remind us more frequently about who is talking and the location. So I did get lost a bit but it is full of lovely stuff. I remember a teacher telling me they aimed to -announce what they were going to teach -teach it -announce what they had just tought |
